Disk Cleanup new option with Anniversary Update

    Hello,

I used MCT to update from version 1511 to 1607 with the option "Upgrade this pc now", I've noticed, when I ran Disk Cleanup, that, in addition to other options available in earlier builds, there is the possibility to delete "Windows ESD installation files". I've already deleted "Previous Windows installations and other related stuff, but before checking the option for "Windows ESD installation files", I think it's good to ask before. I have a folder C:\ESD with 3.37GB so it's probably the folder that Disk Cleanup will delete. I have also disabled in Task Scheduler some Windows tasks related to Silent cleanup and other Cleanup options so I guess I'll have to do it manually via Disk Cleanup.
Now the question is, since I'm using imaging backup software, do I/or Windows 10 version 1607 need in any way, this C:\ESD folder or is it safe to delete???
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    :)

  2. No Windows Update Cleanup option in disk cleanup

Windows Update Cleanup option was not available for me in disk cleanup:

I have tried everything and... I finally enabled it by... changing diagnostic and usage data reporting setting to full (recommmended) in system settings menu:

Is there any way to enable Windows Update Cleanup and other windows update cleanup options without enabling full reporting?

    Hi Tomasz,

This option only becomes available when you enable full reporting. For your reference, I'm sharing with you these

    Hi,

As I said in my first post, I have also disabled in Task Scheduler some Windows tasks related to Silent cleanup and other Cleanup options so Windows will not be able to delete it automatically, I'm afraid.

  7. In that case use extended disk cleanup and since you have disabled tasks, better perform component cleanup as well.

    cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & cleanmgr /sagerun:65535
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

There are a *LOT* of tasks run by the task scheduler, disabling it will stop a lot of functionality from happening. For instance, apps like Chrome And Acrobat will no longer auto-update. The "Where" command will no longer rebuild its database (this is the command which tells you where various files are located), Certain Wi-Fi related tasks (such as periodic SSID scanning), etc.. Not to mention Windows Update won't run, Automatic Defragging (including SSD TRIM), and other cleanup tasks won't run either. In general, it's a bad idea, unless you know everything it does and do those things manually.

Also, Anti-Virus scans won't run either.

    Helllo,

Ok, thanks for the feedback, in my case I have disabled some tasks which I know that I can run them manually at any time, no need to run in the background, so, in your opinion, Windows 10 won't need, at any moment the C:\ESD folder and it's safe to manually delete it via Disk Cleanup, is that correct??
    Thank you.
