You're welcome, you're woodworking skills are exponentially higher than mine! *Thumbs

I'm not so sure this is your fault, as you heard this is a common problem. I'd lean towards last years updates.

You mentioned you've had this SSD, HDD setup for 5years and you've been putting up with this for all that time, or has this been a recent development, maybe since November of last year?

  3. I fitted the Samsung 256gb SSD approximately 3 years ago, before that I had an 80gb SSD that the unit was supplied with, as far as I remember the problem has always been there

When did win 10 come into the picture?

I'm going to have to think about this, in the meantime you should look into the suggestions the other members have offered and settle their questions, you may indeed created duplicates.

  5. On release.

  7. Thanks but I cant do that because my documents folder contains anything I put on the desktop, so a considerable number of pictures, videos etc are stored withing the documents folder. As a lightroom user, I have to be very careful not to move these files outside of lightroom, if I do the catalog then cannot ;locate them which would be a disaster (its already happened after a power cut, I had to manually locate 14,000+ images

My C drive simply isn't big enough

I think I may have to dump the SSD and reinstall the OS on a 2TB HDD and then restore the default locations

    Its a right mess

You can restore the default location without moving any files. You are prompted as to whether you want to move them or not. Then move the location back to D: again.

  9. I saw that, but wouldn't that just take me back to where I am now?

No, as I pointed out before, your problem is that your left column does not even show a Desktop folder. You need to restore this to see your preferred desktop. Somehow your profile was corrupted and it was renamed Documents like the one on D.

According to your prev post "C:\Users\Tony\Desktop ... folder only contains 3 shortcuts" THIS is the extra 'Documents' folder you need to restore the Default Location of. Figure out which of the two Documents folders this is, then follow Brink's tutorial and just type C:\Users\Tony\Desktop in the Location box in Step 4, continue to create Desktop folder again in Default location. The D:\Tony\Documents with all your content should not be affected; diff location, diff drive, your saved work will still go there.

I second mrgeek advice. Just to add: just right click on the first documents icon (that has desktop icon), click on properties and select location tab. You can restore default location there.

Doc folder contents display on desktop

@AndreTen; look at his screenshot in post 7. His Desktop folder was replaced by a 2nd Documents folder. We agree on the fix and it's pretty simple. He just needs to figure out which of the two is his actual Desktop and re-direct it to the correct place. The other Documents with his work should still go to his D drive but This PC is currently recognizing it as his Desktop.

Exactly @mrgeek, same advice. You can tell from the screenshots which folder is Desktop and which is Documents. Just look at the folder's icons *Wink First under This PC is desktop.
