Yeah that is not gonna work for me, cos I have edit all entries in my regedit as suggested by the howtogeek article..

Also tried the fast startup trick in that article..

Seems like only way is to disabled fast startup permanently..

I will test your method and see if that works or not.

That is not true for my machine.

 

Same for mine when using the Number Pad/10-key Pad. I find the Registry change works fine but it only saves the state of the NumLock at time of shutdown or reboot, if On it will return as On, if Off it returns as Off. None of this affects the row of numbers on the keyboard itself, evidenced by use of Notebooks without the Number Pad. As for the PIN entry instead of a password, the state of the NumLock key is important.

 

Yeah it does not look like any solution keeps numlock on permanently.

It all depends on numlock state at shutdown.
So you need to make sure numlock is on, when you shutdown.

Someone need to report this problem to Microsoft .

 

I've not found a reason yet for WHY the NumLock light is disabled, would be nice to have a visual indicator.

These big companies don't have a specific bug report email address.
Most of the time they have a help section, which suppose to answer common problems, but if none of it solves the problem,
you are pretty much out of luck.

Which fix did you use?

It does not work for some of us..

Try shutdown with numlock off/on and see if it works again.

I don't think there is any permanent fix yet, until the next windows update.

 

I set InitialKeyboardIndicators to 2 with regedit
With numlock ON, it stays ON across shutdown, this is what i was looking for

 

Did you change this InitialKeyboardIndicators to 2 for all entries in regedit?

I did this already and it does not keep numlock on permanently.

I have tested this already.

Just wait a while and report back, since this is still too early for you to call it fix.

Even look at the update news, you can see, Microsoft has admit the numlock does not stay on.
