Windows 10: Enable or Disable Resizable Start Menu in Windows 10

NO. This was a clean Windows 10 Preview install.

 

In that case, please go ahead and post some screenshots of what you're seeing to see if it may help to ID the issue.

It looks like you are right clicking on the Start button instead of left clicking on it. What happens when you press the Windows key on your keyboard?

Your registry settings are not correct for step 3 either.

As a test, use step 3 in OPTION ONE below to add a desktop context menu that will let you toggle between using the Start screen or the older resizable Start menu. When you are using the Start menu, the "Customize" button should be ungrayed out.

Unfortunately all this did was to also bring back the nasty Bing search default *Tongue

The newer search is better for using for local files/ folders... it selects the typed inquiry and the enter key open that suggestion
I'll live with that feature that has been missing in all other versions *Smile

Did you notice Administrative Tools folder doesn't show up on the 'New' All Apps menu until you go to the 'Other Side' and enable it then come back?

Hi there.

Does that Search bar work on your New menu version (the default build 9926 one) - mine doesn't even appear - it just has a silly icon which even if you change the settings in the toolbar doesn't show that search bar. Clicking the icon opens an input area but has ZERO effect whatever text you apply.

In the re-sizeable menu (old one) it (search text) works.

After re-boot the stupid Icon is there again --I've checked the registry and it's set to '2'. ???? Comes up with I'm afraid I'm not available to help in your region ??????

The bottom box won't display any keyboard input either.

I think I'll have to go back to the previous menu version.

Cortana is currently only available in English (United States) region for now in the technical preview builds. Setting your region to that may allow you to.

Re-installed again from US version - problem gone away --seems EN (GB) is the culprit --don't know what the Brits have done to deserve the Wrath of Ms !!!!.

Now it's working properly. VPN "poodlefakes" region to US as well !!!. I use the US VPN for my Netflix addiction !!!!.

7 Min Clean install BTW. (SSD's - brilliant).

I suppose sometime today I'll have to do some "Real Work" --Bosses away this week !!!!!.
