    Features removed or Deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update


    I was always under the impression there was an advantage to using ReFS for the volume where you store your Virtual Machines. We still have Hyper-V and I worry they will remove that next as I use that for testing.

    I am not sure what the benefit of Windows Pro anymore. They seem to be stripping out the features that used to differentiate it from Home. It used to have full backup and now that is gone.

    It will be deprecated instead of removed, so it could still be buried. We'll have to wait and see.

    It's deprecated, but it doesn't have an 'X' in the 'Removed' column in post #1. That means MS recommend you use something better, but it's still there (for the Fall Creators Update, at least). You'd get to it with the 'Go to Backup and Restore (Windows 7)' link in Berton's Insiders screenshot. Let's hope they don't hide that before the public release.

    Still wondering how they plan to differentiate Windows Pro from Home. Worried that since they are pulling ReFS from Pro that Storage Spaces and Hyper-V will be next. Both of which I use and depend on.

    I just took a look at GParted's site, but it can only detect ReFS, but not do anything with it.

    I was thinking maybe GParted would be a work around, but alas... nope.

    I do not see them pulling Hyper-V. After all it has been developed quite bit recently.

    Pulling ReFS was a surprise though. I don't remember MS just removing a feature from an edition before.

    I suppose that is the future - features can be removed on a whim (and at short notice) to push people to pay to upgrade to workstation.

    It would be OK if workstation had any interesting new features but poaching them from Pro is a bit cheeky. You'd be upset if you bought Pro because you wanted ability to format ReFS only to have it vanish certainly.
