  2. How set a program to run at start up in Windows 10?

The Startup folder is still there in Windows 10. To access it, press WinKey + R, and type
    shell:startup

This opens the Startup folder, located at:

    C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

    in short:

    %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

  3. Program Load At start Up Windows 10

    Hi Keith

There are some Windows apps that are configured to automatically start whenever Windows boots up. You can also make any app, file, or folder start with Windows by adding it to the Windows “Startup” folder. To do that, follow these easy steps:

Step 1: Open the Windows Startup Folder.

    • To open the Startup folder, just press the Windows key +
      R
on your keyboard, and it will open the Run dialog box.
    • Type shell:startup on the Run dialog box, and press
      Enter
. This will open a File Explorer window right to the Startup folder.

Step Two: Create a Shortcut in the Startup Folder.

    • Locate the item to which you want create your shortcut. Just open a second File Explorer window and find the executable, file, or folder you want to start at boot.
    • Copy and paste the file or program to the Startup folder, or press and hold the right-click button and drag the item you want to create the shortcut for to the “Startup”folder. When you release the button, a popup menu with a few options
      appears. Click Create shortcut here.
You’ll now see a shortcut to your item in the “Startup” folder. The next time you start Windows, your app, file, or folder will launch right along with it.

Should you have other concerns, don't hesitate to reach us back.

  4. Folder Opens on Startup in Windows 10

Hello Billg226 Welcome to the Ten Forums! Not glad to see you back with some headaches however.

The speech options would be under the Windows Ease of Access found at the bottom of the list of things in the Start menu>AllApps section there where you would go to enable/disable things which could explain why that particular folder keeps being found open on startup. The View option on the menu bar in any Explorer window allows you to slide over the "Change folder and view settings" where the View tab is then opened to check off or uncheck the "restore folders on login" box as pointed to in the image here.

The highlight lines take you through the steps to see that checked or unchecked where you then click the Apply button to see that set. If that is checked off by chance unchecking that should be an immediate help while you will first want to look in the Ease of Access in case the Speech option has been enabled.

    Night Hawk,
Thanks for reply. All suggestions you provided didn't work. Tried checking & unchecking the box you recommended. Could not find a "Start menu>AllApps section" as suggested. Got into Ease of Access & appears Speech Recognition is not setup as it wanted me to proceed through Configuration which I canceled.
    Thanks anyway....................Bill

Try downloading Sysinternals Autoruns and check what is running at startup. It is pretty self explanatory.

I ran it and a Window popped up as below:

Folder Opens on Startup in Windows 10 [IMG]

Also if an item is Yellow or Purple, does that me they can be deleted?
Conclusion, didn't see the folder that's loading on start-up.
    Thanks again...................Bill

  10. The new Taskmanager not the msconfig is where you now find the Startup group since that was moved out of the msconfig utility entirely to suit the Tablet touchscreen type needs. That now lacks the select all, disable all type options with the single click enable/disable button for picking and choosing.

The fact that you are not able to go into the Start menu>AllApps section that replaces the All Programs menu seen on 7 indicates you saw a flaky upgrade to 10 take place! I ran into that one last summer going to upgrade a 7 laptop to 10 which also found an invisible Start button! The entire drive OEM partitions and all was then nuked completely to see a small backup partition follow the main 10 fresh primary! The Start button is still on the left end of the main Taskbar as it had been seen since XP, Vista, 7 days.

I installed Windows 10 on my Toshiba laptop about 2 months after it's release (will do desktop before end of July if no major issues pop-up). Anyway,Win 10 had ran great but like millions others, I missed the Start Menu as in Win 7, thus I quickly found and installed Classic Start Menu program last year had not experienced aforementioned problem. The problem just showed up a little over a week ago. In troubleshooting, I'd uninstalled the Classic Start Menu program to no avail.

Also I did find the Task Manager in msconfig after clicking Starting Programs and it auto routed to Task Manager but issue with PC booting up with C:\Windows\System\Speech folder was "not" found there.
    Thanks for reply & suggestions.

    Problem still exists though.

  12. OUCH! Well the next step since this problem only appeared just as of late would be to see how many if any System Restore points you have available and hopefully a few that go back days before this even came up! You will want to go back far enough to insure a repeat won't be seen again while not going back too far as far as anything else is concerned. That will prevent the need for either a Repair install with either the Media Creation tool download which is on the spot as well as providing the options for seeing a USB Install Key, 10 dvd(8gb dual layer only due to size of Windows.iso download), simply saving the ISO file to a folder on the drive where you can then see it mounted on a virtual optical drive.

What I did here fast to repair the Threashold 2 Update that wasn't a fresh install but an upgrade over three previous Insider Preview builds was to re-enable the Get insider builds option when I could no longer name new folders or rename existing ones! I couldn't find any solution for why the TH2 went buggy after two months but simply saw it replaced back at the start of February and since by each newer build since. Eventually which I have continually put off I might even get around to seeing a fresh install of 7 on the second drive in the dual boot set up here?! *Biggrin

I would think the fast and easy solution would be going for the latest Insider Preview build simply not only to repair the 10 installation but to look over the changes that will be coming this summer in the next general release type update build. Insider Builds - Start or Stop Receiving in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

The upgrade takes most of an hour as expected but will leave most programs on and leaves all personal and other files intact. You still end up with a "$Windows~BT" and possibly WS temp install folder as well as the expected Windows.old that can be cleared out and simply renamed to "Windows.personal" or "Windows.backup" being a generally unmovable backup folder to put things since you can't simply delete that accidentally with a right click but would have to use the Disk Cleanup tool or take ownership over it.

These are a few ideas to pass along here. For the old 7 laptop I had seen upgraded to 10 I simply didn't hesitate to nuke the entire drive when first the initial upgrade was a mess and secondly when not able to shrink the OEM primary down any to see a small storage partition created since there wouldn't be any external drive used. Unfortunately when taking it to check up on things like the latest updates nothing appeared on the display while it had been just working fine a few hours earlier. Something let go besides the hard drive which was also found doa when tested separately. A brand new drive put in still saw nothing come up on the display suggesting the integrated graphics chip let go? Or the cmos needs clearing but no help on the HP support site! *Confused

  14. Andre, you're a genius! I have been running Win Patrol, but it does not detect a lot of the programs that Autorun detects. I recognized the program as something I have run on 7 and 8, and I'm glad to have it on 10.
