Freeze Crash and Nvidia Driver Stopped Responding

    Hello everyone,

I recently did a clean install to get Windows 10, but I'm getting two issues atm.

The major one is a freeze crash where the computer will freeze, and the have the audio go really slow, robotic or at other times it will stutter/repeat. Sometimes the screen will also go black. It started happening around once per a day after I installed Windows 10. The only way to get out of it is to restart the computer, but when I restart it, the computer doesn't get past the windows loading screen. But on the 2nd restart after manually pressing the power button, it finally goes back to normal and boots up properly. It's happened around 4-5 times already since I installed Windows 10 a week ago.

The second issue might be related but around once a day, my screen turns black and I get a notification that Nvidia driver (model #) has stopped responding and has recovered. It's really quick and lasts only 3-5 seconds, so its not that annoying. This is a issue that I've had for a while even back in Windows 7. I always update the drivers for the GTX 660 Ti using Geforce Experience from Nvidia, but it never solves the issue.

I did get 1-2 BSODs since installing Windows 10, but I'm not sure if they are related.
In the dump file, there is information that says the BSOD error is a "VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR (199)" with the driver reporting a invalid fence ID. I looked it up online and I tried a solution, but it didn't work. I'm a bit stuck on what to do next.

    Thanks for the help.

    Edit:
I also forgot to mention that if I press the sleep key on my keyboard and later awake from it, windows tends to slowly crash and eventually BSOD. By slowly, I mean that the taskbar starts to disappear as well as the start menu, but I can still use my programs such as Chrome to a limited degree, which is quite weird. Not sure if that helps xD!

    :)

Windows 10 crashes because of my graphic card driver

This video helped out with the following error: "Display Driver NVidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver has Stopped Responding"

    1: click on Control Panel

    2: click on NVidia Configurations

3: click on Manage 3D Settings

    4: click on Global Settings

5: go to POWER MANAGEMENT MODE and set it to MAXIMUM

6: go to VERTICAL SYNC and set it to OFF

This solved my crashes, freezes accompanied by this error.

No luck. Unfortunately i got the same error message 5 times with normal internet surfing and writing a document in microsoft office. I did exactly what you have said. The only prograss is that the system did't crash. What happens now is that.

1- the system freezes for second

2- thescreen goes black for a second

3- the following error message apppears.

Display driver stopped responsing and hss recovered successfully. display driver nvidia windows kernel mode driver, version 353.62 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Freeze Crash and Nvidia Driver Stopped Responding

I attempted to fix the "Driver has not stopped responding and has recovered" problem by going into the registry and creating a variable QWORD (64 Bit) called "TdrDelay", and I assigned it to a value of 8. I got the idea from Windows 10 - Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered - YouTube. So I'll just wait and see if that problem still continues or not. Though, I'm not exactly sure how delaying a GPU from restarting with the TdrDelay is gonna help if the whole point is that the GPU is stuck trying to do a operation and needs to restart, which in my mind would cause graphics processing to freeze up the computer screen.

Also, today I got another computer freeze, and what sucks is that I don't get a memory dump because a BSOD doesn't happen...

    Edit:
I was reading a few other threads to see what else I can do. One of them suggested rolling back my 361.43 version of Nvidia driver back to 359.06. I'll try that after some time has passed to see if the TdrDelay actually did work.

    Thanks for the help.
    1. I disabled hibernation, and now whenever I press the sleep button on the keyboard, it doesn't crash, well at least so far xD So I'm guessing that key was making the computer go into hibernation instead of sleep mode? Am I correct?

    2. I think the "Driver has stopped responding and has recovered" problem was fixed by creating the TdrDelay variable with a value of 8 in the registry. I haven't had the problem ever since then.

    3. I uninstalled Nvidia drivers in safe mode, restarted, and then installed the newest Nvidia drivers.

    4. Just before I downloaded the Nvidia drivers, my computer actually did freeze with the loading symbol on the mouse going on for 15 minutes. And so I decided to restart the computer. How should I go about fixing this problem?

    Try updating drivers manually.
Any devices attached? Besides keyboard and mouse

    Nope, no other devices.
What drivers should I update specifically?

Mouse and keyboard to start with.

Mm well the keyboard is fairly old, and it has no updates. It's from my old compaq computer, but I kept it because it still works and looks great.
The mouse is from logitech, and it also has no new updates for it.

I also just went into device manager and pressed the "search automatically for updated driver software" for all of the main components, but it said that all of them are updated, which is a bit hard to believe for me xD

Device manager pretty rarely does say there are updates available.

I would recommend to update the Qualcomm Atheros network driver, the data is according to your uploaded file.

Freeze Crash and Nvidia Driver Stopped Responding

How old is your hardware components including peripheral and when was the last time you updated their drivers?

  14. Artekis Win User
My main components such as the intel i5-3570k, gtx 660ti, gigabyte z77x-3dh motherboard, 8 gb ram, 700w psu, and 1 TB hard drive are about 4 years old. I bought each of the parts and put it together myself. I only updated the graphics card.
However, the compaq keyboard and speakers are like 10 years old. Finally, the logitech mouse is around 3-5 years old. I never updated the peripherals since I didn't even think that was possible xD

I would check for the older components for driver updates, I don't expect any but always check.
Drivers may cause system freezes, especially peripheral drivers are often causing it.
