Windows 10: Function Discovery Resource Publication Service not working

Hello,

I have a problem with the above mentioned service, therefore i can`t see other devices in the network and also can`t enable filesharing.

The only way i can make it work is to start in safe-mode and use the "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" command and restart. Then it will work, this computer can see, and be seen by, other devices and i can enable filesharing as well.

But as soon as i do a restart after this, the service disables itself again.

I have tried a clean boot, to see if it was an microsoft issue or other software issue, but it seems it is an microsoft issue.

I have also tried to start with Administrator account, to see if my current user profile was corrupt somehow, but this did not help.

I have done an update/ugrade via MediaCreationTool1809.exe but this did not solve the issue as well.

I've had intensive contact with microsoft support about this, and they promised that tier 3 developers should contact me, but this never happened.
And last week suddenly they came with the suggestion that all devices in my network should all be w10 devices so they can see eachother??? *really
But of course that is not true, it has nothing to do with other devices(i told them that as well), it is purely the Function Discovery Resource Publication Service which is not working. When it works like i described above via the safe-mode method, there is no issue at all.
Their last recommendation was to enable smb1 filesharing: Enable or Disable SMB1 File Sharing Protocol in Windows | Tutorials , but this did not solve the problem also.

So long story short....they advised me to try it here. Basicly i just have the impression that they could(or would...?) not solve it. Immediately after i closed the chat, they closed the case this time. *Huh*Rolleyes

Of course i can always use the safe-mode method, but that is kind of boring. I would like to start my computer and use it and not every time restart in safe-mode.

So i will try my luck here and hopes somebody can help me. I've been busy with this many weeks, tried out everything i could find, but nope....*Banghead

Function Discovery Resource Publication Service error

I just signed in as Administator and the 1st thing i did was checking the Function Discovery Resource Publication Service. It was similar with my normal account, it wasn't enabled and when i tried to start i did get the same error prompt.

Since basicly i only had some success with starting in Safe Mode with: netsh int ip reset resetlog.tx, i tried only this option.

After restart, like with my other account, the Function Discovery Resource Publication Service was working. When i restarted again, it stopped working.

I became aware of the problem several weeks ago when I could not find another computer on the local network. It had been working okay before. There have been no significant changes that I know of.
I found an article that said I should check if the following services are enabled and running: DNS Client, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery and UPnP Device Host. All were running except for Function Discovery Resource Publication.
It was enabled (Automatic (Delayed Start)) but each time I tried to start it, I got the error message:

Windows could not start the Function Discovery Resource Publication service on Local Computer.
Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error

I suspected this was the cause of not finding the computer on the network, but didn't know how to fix it. Yesterday I tried another tactic by going to Settings / Network and Internet / Status / Network Troubleshooter. It seemed to find a problem and correct
it, and then I was able to find the computer on the network by refreshing Windows Explorer. However Function Discovery Resource Publication was still not working. Today when I checked I found I could not find the computer again.
