Windows 10: GNS3 in Windows 10 keeps shutting down application

Hello, I am having an issue when running GNS3 on windows 10 laptop. I open the application and try to load an image the application shuts down.

I have tried the compatibility modes and still have the problem. I have run application as administrator and still have the problem.


Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

GNS3 version 1.4.6 detected as a trojan

I, too, believe that this is a false postive detection.

Trojan:Win32/Varpes.M!cl was formerly called Trojan:Win32/Varpes.M!plock

I saw various threads with regard to false positive WD detections with the ending
plock.

Since the exe file is too big to either upload it to
VirusTotal or to MS, I downloaded the file from
https://github.com/GNS3/gns3-gui/releases/tag/v1.4.6

and scanned it with my AV Emsisoft Anti-Malware.

Result: all clean.

I then upoaded the file to
Metascan Online (allows large file submissions).

Result: all clean. See

I suggest to exclude that file from being scanned:

GNS3 version 1.4.6 detected as a trojan

Members on the GNS3 forum swear there is no trojan present and that other malware programs do not identify GNS3 installer exe as a trojan, yet defender does. Anyway Microsoft can take a look at this and either eliminate the false positive or confirm that
they are in fact the only malware scanner identifying this issue?

It is identifying "Win32/Varpes.M!cl"
