  1. Heads Up for Outlook 2010 Users & Dec 8th's Update (KB3114409)

Thanks for the tips on removal. I am unhappy with updates downloading automatically as I often use mobile data and I do not need to pay a fortune for a download that could wait a few hours until I am on WiFi. As a consequence I have stopped the update process from running:

This is perhaps a little drastic but I can set it running every month or so.

I'm also disappointed that with last night's updates my PC settings went back to day 1 with W10. As well as highjacking Outlook 2010 it changed my file extension associations and the toolbar settings (which Classic Shell half-recovered from but which still needed further tweaking from me).

Only KB3114409 needs to be uninstalled; this solved opening only in Safe Mode and all the various settings that it changed and would not keep.

Microsoft has withdrawn this update now.

  3. Maybe someone can help. One one computer the uninstall of 3114409 worked like a charm. However, on another computer, when I clicked on uninstall, a box came up that said yes or no. I clicked on Yes.

I now realize that it wasn't the uninstall update box but something else. I think it was a User Control dialog box. Well, now the update is shown as being installed on the main update page, but when I go to the update history, it's not listed there. So now, when I open Outlook, it opens in Safe Mode.

I can't re-download the update as it's been pulled. So I'm kind of stuck. I'm not really sure what I said yes to.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop Outlook from opening in Safe Mode after what I apparently did?

    Thanks.

I found this site and thread by Googling office 2010 safe start. There were several links about how to solve Outlook opening in safe mode. Not sure it will work in your config but worth a search or two.

That does seem a bit drastic, yes. You could set your WLAN to metered (if it isn't already) and then Windows update will not automatically download. By default Wi-Fi is set as unmetered and mobile as metered but perhaps you should check.

I have been struggling with outlook 2010 since upgrading to windows 10. As a kludge fix, I run EVERY DAY the sfc /scannow; start outlook in safe mode (hold control key down); then send receive; then restart outlook; and it works for ONE DAY. I finally found a real fix: create a new profile. It is not necessary to use it; just create one; and delete any old ones that are not in use (I had one installed by a corel program a while ago that I was not even aware of). You can find out how to create a profile by typing that into google, it varies by os and version of outlook and even whether it's 32 bit or 64 bit.
