Windows 10: How Can I Keep My Local Windows Password When Signing Up Computer for MS Account?

I'm trying to add a Windows 10 laptop to my Microsoft account.


In the process of doing so, they want my Windows password and state that in the future, I'll log into Windows using my Microsoft account password.


I don't want to change my Windows password. In fact, I'd rather have my machines boot into Windows with 'AutoAdminLogon' as I do in Windows 7. Failing that on Windows 10, I keep a simple password that I can remember and type quickly. I don't want to replace that with the long and complex secure password I use for the MS account.


Is that even possible?

Local Account password changed to Online Account Password

Hi,

I suggest you to follow the steps on how to switch from Microsoft account to Local account:

• Click on search in taskbar and type account.
• Click on Accounts.
• Now, under Your account, click on Sign in with Local account instead.
• Enter your Microsoft account password for confirmation and then follow the screen instruction.
• Enter User name credentials for your the Local account and click OK.
• Now, login to Local account.

Local account installation question

I'm fairly certain that Skip this step was available in 10.0.130 - the workaround in Step 20 (back button) is no longer required.

The currently known, as of 10.0.130, ways to create a Local account sign-in are

• Skip this step at the MS account creation phase
• No Internet connection during the install
• static IP (post# 2 by Fragment) - New (to me anyway)

Go to https://account.microsoft.com, click Create account and fill the form:





With a Microsoft account you can then use OneDrive and Office Online apps for free. You can also use built-in native Windows apps which require a Microsoft account like Mail, Skype Preview, People, Calendar and download apps from Windows Store.
