Too bad that it has that flaw (perhaps not for all users but at least for some) because it seems good otherwise.

You have not taken up any of my time, Razz. I'm here to help and glad to.

Up to you, but if you want to pursue it further at some time you may want to try this. Uninstall the apps and reinstall for a fresh beginning.

How to Uninstall Desktop Apps and Windows Apps in Windows 10. Use option 2 since those apps do not have an uninstall in Apps within the Settings app.

Here's some reading to understand the concept of how apps communicate with each other. Interprocess Communications (Windows)

In the mean time I'm going to investigate whether or not importing the Tbird .csv contacts was legit or not.

I followed instructions as per your link. Still no luck. There is a work-around I found but it's a pain since it should be much easier than that. If you click on the desired contact in the People app and then click the pencil icon (which is edit), you can then copy the email address and then paste it into the "To:" field. Until there's a solution for me, I'll use Thunderbird.

How do you import contacts into Windows 10 Mail from Thunderbird?

Yes, that's not a good workaround for sure.

Strange thing is mine works great, although I know not the same situation. I've been using Windows Mail and Outlook.com since inception. I'm not a fan of any 3rd party apps. In fact. I don't use any at all anymore. I have no problems with my system that I see others do. LOL> I think many dislike that I don't use any.

Did you perform the Tbird contacts install again after installing/reinstalling the apps again? TBH, I haven't researched if that was the correct way yet, but will get to it. I'm thinking the .csv file needs to have the proper fields in the proper order in order for it to work. The .csv file from Tbird may not be compatible. I'll research that also.

If you come up with anything, let me know and I'll do the same. Perhaps someone else may come along also.

No, I didn't reinstall the TBird contacts. The complete contact list was still there. Keep in mind the contact list in People is OK, it's just not accessible from Mail. You would think the .csv file must be compatible if it loaded into the People app OK - but who knows!

I will for sure post if I solve the issue.

Thanks a million again HippsieGypsie for all your time and effort.

    You're welcome.

The list must be in/backed up in your MS account now, so of course they would appear. Silly me! LOL.

    You take care, Razz. *Smile

Hi HippsieGypsie. Currently in my Mail app, when you send an email to someone, their email address is not saved in contacts (like in many, if not most, email clients). I was thinking, is there an option you can activate in order to get Mail to save that email address that you enter into the "To:" field? If so, then assuming this would solve my issue, I could send an email to all my contacts and then have easy access for any future emails to them.

    Best Regards.

How do you import contacts into Windows 10 Mail from Thunderbird?

    @Razz

Sorry about the delay. This thread got bumped to page 2 of my forum subscriptions page. Unless I answer to it straightway it gets lost down the line.

In reading over this thread again, it seems I have taken you down the wrong rabbit hole looking for a solution with this. My apology for that. Instructions in my 2nd post will indeed work just like you imported contacts from your Yahoo account, except when you get to adding an account you need to use the “Advanced” option. You’ll need to scroll down in that box to see it.

You may want to go to your Outlook.com first and delete any Tbird contacts that appear there if any.

Doesn’t really matter which app you use for Mail, Calendar, and People apps are the Communications app’s apps. I suggest to use the Mail app since I’m assuming that’s what you used to import your Yahoo account.

Mail app > Settings gear > Manage accounts > Add account > (Scroll down to) Advanced setup > Internet email.

    Follow the instructions here:

Add or Delete Account in Windows 10 Mail app Windows 10 Browsers Email Tutorials

You’ll need to get the needed info from Tbird support:

As always, thanks for your help HippsieGypsie. Before I go down this road I wanted to clarify something. It's my Thunderbird contacts that I want. In fact, no need for any Yahoo contacts. So perhaps what I need to do is try to import my Tbird contatcs to Yahoo and then proceed with what you suggested. Is my thinking correct?

Also, do I delete all contacts in People before fresh import?

    You're welcome, Razz. *Smile

Yes, I know it's your Tbird contacts you want. You can have both if you so want. Not sure why anyone would not want them all in one place, though.

First off, I suggest you export and back up all .csv contact files titled accordingly in case something goes wrong. I always keep 2 backup files on 2 drives.

I would import the contacts as instructed, but I would guess your way would work. Are you having difficulty with the instructions? Please ask if you are or want to.

Yes, I would delete all contacts online and start fresh. The easiest way would be to go online to your Outlook.com > People. Right next to "Your contacts" at the top wave your mouse pointer over that and a "Select all" box will appear. Checkmark that and press delete.

Finally, I feel a lot of users aren't understanding how useful the Modern Store Communication apps are, being that they are intertwined. The more I use these apps, the more I'm astounded of their use. Here is an example below. I have a contact highlighted below. Notice in the all the communication info and instant links at the right. I have a Skype account linked as well, so I can phone call or if the have Skype video call anyone.

You can show or hide any account you want via contacts filter in settings.

Finally, one can pin contact to taskbar or Start screen, edit (pencil), link, and via the 3-dots share or delete.

So your contact list is correct in the People App, so that's OK. Basically a job done at least.

There are a number of things not working correctly in the Mail App, or connecting stuff, who knows, you will have to contact MS.

I have spent days with MS on a different feature that does not work entirely correctly.
Got nowhere, and MS 'archived' it.

I did all the stuff like re-installing the relevant Apps and linked ones, resets and checking Windows 10, troubleshooter, test Account, everything MS asked.

MS has lost sight of what matters, the basics working correctly.
They insist on fancy feature updates and switching them on without permission (e.g. Focussed Inbox, conversation). Not once, but several times grrr.

  12. Hi Razz. I'm in agreement with you, a couple of posts back. I would import directly to Yahoo. Actually this is how I recommend for my clients especially if they have gmail as I like the way gmail handles and processes duplicate handling works.

In post 23 of this thread you show a mail app at bottom of screen shots. I believe that is the Outlook mail app which is different from the Windows 10 mail app. The Windows 10 mail app is an open envelope, rather edgy and its titled "Mail"

Which app are you using for mail?

How do you import contacts into Windows 10 Mail from Thunderbird?

Trying to use Windows 10 Mail.

    @ HippsieGypsie, @ Helmut & @ Caledon Ken:

I got good news for me *Party and for all of you who have been investing so much of your time and effort trying to help me. I solved the problem. HippsieGypsie, what you suggested in your last post still didn't work for some weird reason. However, I figured out a work-around. If you add the contacts one by one in People, then it works like it should - i.e. in Mail when I start typing the name of one of my contacts into the "To:" field, the contacts with that letter pop-up. YAY - at last! *Smile

I have 74 contacts so not an outrageous number of contacts to enter.

Thank you to all for your help and a special thank you to HippsieGypsie for all the hours spent in helping me and all the information - I really appreciate it.

  14. Glad you got it worked out.
