  1. How to make the Start be the default?

I just built a new machine. When It starts it opens to the Windows back ground image. I have to click the start icon in the task bar to bring up start with the tiles. On my other machines and my surface it defaults to the start with Tiles. Also, clicking any where on the screen brings up the tiles. Not so on the new machine. Only the start button in the left taskbar corner will open the Start with tiles. This has to be a switch somewhere?

    I want this,

    but get this.

How to make the Start Menu open by default on the Fullscreen Start Screen?

    Hi Jack,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

Be design you may have to click on the hamburger icon to open left pane when start menu is in full screen. I suggest you to leave a Feedback in the feedback app. You may simply search for “Windows Feedback” from the search box.

Refer the article for information about Start Menu.

Hope this information helps. Reply to the post if you need further assistance or information on this issue.

  3. Windows 10 Start Menu - How to make the links on the left side lead to Libraries?

Thank you for providing the information that we need. The icons or links in the Start Menu that leads to the local folders is by design. The feature to make them lead to their respective libraries is not yet available in Windows 10. Your feedback helps us
shape Windows, we encourage you to submit your issue using the Feedback Hub. You can either vote on an existing submission or submit a new issue. When you submit a feedback item we gather additional details and information about your issue that will help determine
what’s causing it and address it. Feedback items regularly receive Microsoft responses on the submissions in the Feedback app so you can see what we are doing about your feedback. Please revisit frequently to see the status of your feedback items.

For more information on Feedback Hub, see our
    support article
    and

In order to submit new feedback, please follow these steps:

    • On a Windows 10 device, search for “Feedback Hub” in Cortana search, then launch the app.
    • Navigate to Feedback in the left menu, then press +
      Add new feedback
      .
    • Select the Problem, and share any details you think are relevant, and choose an appropriate category and subcategory.
    • Important: If possible, reproduce the problem(s) after clicking
      Begin monitoring
      (or Start capture) near the end of the form;
      Stop monitoring when you’re done.
    • Once you’ve completed the form and monitoring, click Submit.
    • Click Continue using Feedback Hub.
    • Click My feedback at the top, then find the item you submitted (it may take a while to appear).
    • Open the item you submitted, then click Share.
    • Click Copy link, then paste the link here in your response (it will look like
      URL Manager link>).

As always, your input will be highly appreciated.

  5. Thanks, but I have been through that article and several others on other sites. I've played with all the settings. I cannot access the start tile screen without clicking the start button. I can't find this addressed anywhere.

Over on Eight Forums, @Brink created an application to boot straight to the Start Screen, called Apps 8.1.exe...

but, I can't find the tutorial on it! *Sad
(Maybe @Brink will stop by and shed some light on it!) *Wink

Anyhoo, if we can find it, you could put a copy of the .exe in your Startup folder, it will work on Windows 10, but it will look like this upon bootup:

    @ Edwin
I don't know what the op is talking about
If system set to tablet mode - it will boot to the start screen

    @ CalypsoArt

What build of Windows 10 are you using?
The op suggests using windows without touching the Windows Key ??

Yeah, I know. Tablet Mode sucks though! *Wink

The application I mentioned earlier was created to re-enable these features:

    To most yep. *Smile
if the op wants the system to behave like windows 8 - tablet mode is it
however … using windows 8 still required use of the windows key or the edge swipe

this is not available in windows 10 is it?
