Windows 10: How to remove Windows 10 taskbar/show desktop button?

Hi there.

I need 1 of the 2 things found if possible for Windows 10 only. Either to remove the show desktop button (which I have no use for at all) at boot up, NOT startup, or remove taskbar at boot up, but still have access to the Windows key for the start menu. I have already removed the system tray arrow permanently using regedit and would like a regedit/bat file/command prompt for one or the other. I have tried all manner of tweakers and 3rd party apps, but to no avail!

Please help if you can.

creating a short cut

Hi sassykittn, I am Rob, a volunteer and a 10 time and dual award MVP specializing in Windows troubleshooting and Bluescreen analysis.

Right Click the Taskbar and there is a "Show the desktop" option.

Windows Key + D will take you to the desktop.

To make a shortcut to put on the Taskbar use:

Right Click a blank area on the Desktop

select New - Shortcut

Copy and Paste this into the location field,

%windir%\explorer.exe shell:::{3080F90D-D7AD-11D9-BD98-0000947B0257}

Right Click the shortcut on the Desktop - Properties - Shortcut tab - Change Icon - select as you wish - OK - Apply - OK out.

When it is as you wish Right Click on it and Pin to Taskbar.

To disable 'peek at desktop' see this tutorial:

Removing the Taskbar is (probably) not possible (or advisable) but it can be set to autohide, which would be almost as good. There's a TenForums tutorial for that too...

Thanks for responding but I need to completely remove the show desktop button NOT disable it and auto hiding the taskbar still leaves a trace of the button peeping out anyway!

 

In general, it's better to find a native Windows 10 solution to your needs rather that a 3rd-part 'tweak' or registry 'hack'. A lot of support questions we see on these forums can be traced back to 'unintended consequences' of such 'tweaks'.
