I Have No Descriptive Title For This Except .. I Am So Upset!

What kind of title could have described This!?
    Some background.

When I first purchased this pc it came with windows 10.
    (six months ago)
When I did the first boot to desktop the desktop was horrible!

The background was blurry and the colors on the desktop, the task bar and on every internet page were terrible.

Sign in boxes were colored where they should have been white and you couldn't read the writing/fonts within the boxes.

I sat and experimented for two days, trying to get a normal setting!
Nothing worked until, by accident I came upon something in the display.

I changed the setting from a high number to a lower number and .. just like that, everything was normal!

Here is why I am so D@*m upset!
Last night the pc shut down and started updating.
The screen kept changing colors and the message that the pc would shut down and restart numerous times was displayed.

It took at least a half hour to update and when it did .. I am back at everything being messed up like it was when I first started out!!

I suspect that these @ZZ-holes at microsoft forced a windows 10 upgrade on my pc when I didn't need one.
    I already had widows 10!

Not only that, I wanted to a restore and guess what .. the restore had been shut off and there were no restore points to return to even though I had numerous restore points before this 'upgrade'?

I have no idea where or how I made the changes from last time because I was just lucky.
Changing the DPI does nothing and if I remember, the last time .. when I fixed the problem, the box that I changed had to do with DPI or D something!

Before you ask, a screen shot wont help you to see the problem because on a normal pc, the screen shots look normal.
(I went through all of that the last time)

I have 'captured' the updates that it says I have installed within the last few days.
I haven't seen any update action today even though all of them are listed as today .. Except the one at the bottom?

Is That the update that messed me up from last night and can I remove it?

Oh, sure, she can (and will) find them on-line for you but she should be able to RECITE them.

Is Microsoft trying to fuel a riot by users under the influence of the "Frankenstein Complex?"

An update needs to be installed in her programming ASAP before she decides to start using us for energizer bunnies!!!

Trouble with loginname in Windows Mail App

    Hi there,

I am using the Windows Mail App (from the Store) with an exchange account.

The problem ist that I can type in email and password only.

My loginname is NOT EQUAL to my email-address, so how can I specify the loginname?

PS: using the loginname in the email-field is not possible.

First of all, yes - you did have an upgrade. You were running version 1511, you were upgraded to version 1607 (the Anniversary Update) on or just before the 27th. The updates in your list were all installed after that, KB3189866 being the latest cumulative update for 1607, taking you up to build 14393.187.

No, there are no restore points. That's because the ones you had before were for your previous version 1511 so can't be applied to your current system. What you DO have is a 10 day window of opportunity in which you can choose to go back to your previous build (the 1511 one that you had had got working with your display). You will find this option in Settings - Update & Security - Recovery. It will look like this (except yours will say you can go back, my 10 days passed long ago).

In view of the difficulty you had getting the display to work properly, going back to the earlier build is probably your best option. The process uninstalls 1607 and returns your system to version 1511. It will take an hour or two and may restart several times. When it's done, your PC will be back to the state it was immediately before the upgrade. You will not loose your installed apps or documents, but it is a wise precaution to back up your documents before you proceed. This could be something as simple as copying your user documents to a USB or two. You're obviously upset - relax, it can all be undone. But probably best you take a break and come back to this refreshed.

Once you are back to a working state, then we can look at what's so bad about your display settings and see if we can help there. For that we need to know a lot more about your PC. Please fill in your System Specs in your Profile, including your video card make/model if you can.

Frankly, if things were that bad, I would have simply returned the Computer to the store and bought a different one. Why spend days fixing a problem on a new PC? That's ridiculous.

You're probably going to have this problem every 6-8 months, because that's how often new major updates of Windows 10 happen. You should NOT turn off windows updates, because then you will not get security patches and will leave your computer vulnerable to malware, ransomware, and other unwanted programs.

    Glad to have helped.

Like Mystere, I don't think I'd have had the patience to get the PC to work, but would have taken it back to the store long ago. Was there no warranty for a year? Assuming there's some good reason that you're stuck with this machine we'd need to know it's make, model number and video card details to help you keep it working properly.

Having uninstalled the Anniversary Update (AU), it's unclear if this will be automatically offered to you again ( I can't find any definitive answer on Microsoft's sites). Even if you won't be getting the AU again, the next Features Update (ie. another upgrade) is due out in 2017 and that will be downloaded automatically.

What you don't want to do is block all further updates. The monthly Cumulative Updates carry important security fixes. One way to halt the updates long enough to let you choose what to do is to set your network connection as a Metered Connection. There's a tutorial here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3...dows-10-a.html This will not stop windows automatically checking for updates, but it will pause any downloads (including Defender's virus definitions). There will be a notification that an update couldn't be installed and you will be offered a 'download now' option. It would be best to regularly check for updates to make sure Defender is kept up to date.

For the normal monthly security and bug-fix updates it should be safe to download and install them. Should the AU reappear (or the next Features Update) then unless we've got to the root of your display problems by then it would be safer not to accept the upgrade.

For 'problem updates' Microsoft have released a troubleshooter tool called wushowhide that lets you hide individual updates. You can't use it until the AU has appeared in the 'Update & Security' settings page. But when (if?) it does, you can hide it. This means you will be able to continue downloading the security updates without the risk of an unwanted upgrade. You can read about it and get it here:

It looks like a Microsoft, update, software problem?

No, if you bought the computer, and right out of the box it was improperly configured, then that's a computer problem. Obviously, the hardware does not work well with the default configuration.
