Installing office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, PC username replaced

    Hi,

Before installing Office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, my username to logon to my laptop, was "AJ ANNING" and a specific pAasswAord. Now my username does not show up at logon. "JAMES ANNING" is what shows up, and the username is now my email "xxxx@xxxxxxxxx.com" and the password is different. Going to user accounts in control panel the only user is "xxxx@xxxxxxxxx.com". The user "AJ ANNING" is not there.
Also, I can no longer access 3 of my network drives.
    Please advise,

    :)

So even though "the password is different" you are still able to log onto the computer? I installed Office 365 on a new Notebook on Thursday and none of the log-in for the computer changed. As for the Networked drives, you may need to use File Explorer to Disconnect the drives then Map them again [I've had to a couple of times in the past].

One feature of Office 365 I like is the money I make helping others with it, namely the need to be connected to the Internet at least once a month. I have a client who travels frequently [livestock broker] and if gone more than a month he calls me when he returns to get Office 365 set up again on his Desktop, mostly password issues. Could be that's a requirement of using the Microsoft account rather than a Local account. It's no problem when traveling as he uses a Notebook. Seems to be more and more software producers are going to a subscription basis for their programs, one I have is Arts & Letters Express [graphics editor] that no longer offer the traditional CD/DVD, monthly subscription only. Granted it's only $9.95 a month but does add up.

Switch back to local account. For instructions, see this tutorial: Local Account - Switch to in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

By the way, Windows does never change a local account to a Microsoft account without asking a user to accept it. When a local account user signs in to any Microsoft service or app requiring a Microsoft account, this prompt will be shown:

Installing office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, PC username replaced [IMG]

As it clearly states in the title ("Sign in to this device using your Microsoft account"), entering the password of current local account and clicking Next will convert the current local Windows sign-in user account to a Microsoft account.

The prompt is very clear. When user selects the option Sign in to just this app instead, the Windows user account will remain local and the Microsoft account will be used only to sign in to that app. As so often this "issue" is not because of Windows; it is because the user does not read on-screen instructions. This about converting a Windows sign-in local account to a Microsoft account "without asking me" is due user not reading what is shown in prompts and therefore not following the instructions given, but instead of that simply entering passwords or other information without reading the instructions and clicking buttons without knowing what he / she is doing.

I assume i'll have to recreate my old acct, as it is no longer there. So, if I do this, do I keep the Microsoft acct? I suspect it needs the MS acct for the clould services, ie one drive?

Did you read my reply above. Extract from it:

Your account is still there, it's just that it is now a Microsoft account which you can simply switch back to local account whenever and if you want to.

    Hi,
To get my old account back, I had to disconnect from the 365 account. When I do this, my old user name appears and I have to recreate the password...it signs off 365 and back on with my old user name, while on my old username...onedrive is disconnected, the only way to connect to onedrive is to do the reverse of the above....disconnect from my username, and connect to 365. Shouldn't onedrive work without doing this ?
