Windows 10: Is Windows Photo Viewer gone?

[/quote] I just wanted to say this this fix has ruined my computer. As soon as I applied it, I was able to finally use Windows Photo Viewer, but then I noticed that my CPU was running at 95%. I rebooted because it simply became unresponsive, and now it does not boot into Windows anymore. All I see is a black screen with the mouse pointer, nothing else.

 

my default is pse8, but if I load my camera smart card and right click on image, one of the opening choices is photo viewer, and use it to view.

 

I've tried the activation of WINDOWS VIEWER as default, without success. The starting point, in my case, is a clean WINDOWS 10 installation. Even thought I've been following the instructions (look at Edwin code), updating Registry sucessfully, the WINDOWS VIEWER doesn't appears like an option to be selelected as default under configuration menus.

Any suggestion?

Is it part of windows essentials?

I googled it and found this:

No, it is not part of the Windows Essentials which includes Windows Photo Gallery. It is not the same program.

Windows Photo Viewer is part of Windows 7 operating system. It was taken off in Windows 10.
The link you have will restore it onto Windows 10.
It works as I have tried it myself.

Hi, I am not able to put the reg file into my system for some reason. Here is what I did:
1. Copied entire thing into a notepad file.
2. Saved that file as WPV.reg into my hard drive.
3. Tried to double click and install in into my system.
4. It gave an error saying: "The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files within the registry editor."
Screenshot of the error is attached below.
Plz help!!

 

Try Right-click the .reg file and choose "Merge" - then it will merge in the Reg. editor, providing the code is right!

Sorry if this has been answered before, but is a bit late and I don't have the time to read carefully all the posts in this thread. I used the registry patch to enable Windows Photo Viewer, but when I try to set it as default for all the files it can open, it just doesn't appear on the list to select it. What can I do? I run Windows 10 Pro Fall Creators Update. I would like to use the "traditional" Default Applications control, if available, I don't like the modern one that is very limited. How can I access it?

Unfortunately you can't any more. That part of Control Panel disappeared when Fall Creators Update was released. Although the Control Panel version could still be opened if you knew the right command line (and in early builds still worked) its been disabled since build 16299.309 (maybe earlier) and no longer has any effect. MS only let you use the Settings app now. *Sad

Classic Default Programs not working anymore

 

Well these comments do not answer my question. If you have a desktop application that does not appear on the selection list and you want to make it default, how you do it? I would like to avoid associating every single file extension it can open manually with the application. I would prefer a more convenient solution like "make this application default for all the files it can open", like we could do in the "traditional" control. Any way to do that? Thank you.

 

Really TERRIBLE Microsoft is making Windows more like a phone and treating Windows users as the same idiots that they treate WP users as. Maybe some day file systems will also be **not** accessible to users, we'll see only photos, musics, games but not the file behind 'em. People are always been fooled these days. Yes it will be super convenient for those don't want to think at all, but whoever win except large corporations? E.g. They can easily make a music only available for few days even if the file of this music is in users' hard drive: if you don't pay again they just detele it. Nowadays they're already doing such nonsense however we still can copy the file somewhere or just zip it. Well perhaps people just do not need to think just like Nasi leaders said? Who knows.
