Windows 10: Laptop Died After Win 10 Update

It was error code: 0xc0000017
There isn't enough memory available to create a ramdisk device.


To troubleshoot the problem you would look up the error code and/or look up the error message.

Had a quick look but appears you have to take the whole bottom cover off. Not a job to do after a few scotches so will have a go in the morning. You look as though you've pulled an allnighter too. Thanks so much for your help. Just got your latest msg. Will follow up in the morning. Get some sleep.

The RAM is probably underneath the keyboard.

Okay, so while I had the bottom cover off I thought I'd try a fix from another forum I read and one which my daughter suggested too. So I took the BIOS battery out and disconnected the laptop battery. Waited half an hour and guess what? It worked. Booted to the BIOS and was able to change the boot drive to the USB. I already had a Windows 10 USB boot disc so I plugged it in, booted up and installed Windows. Working fine now. Fingers x-ed.

I really appreciate it as I was about to give up and dispose of the machine in the dam and you gave me hope. If you hadn't gotten me to take the bottom off (24 screws) I would never have done the fix.

Perform the following steps:
1) Backup any important files to another drive or to the cloud
2) Make a backup image using Macrium:
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free
3) Place the backup image onto another drive or into the cloud
4) Make a brand new restore point.
5) Test the drive with HD Tune:
Health, benchmark, and full error scan
6) Check the drive file system with chkdsk /x /f /r
