People contact pinned to Start Screen of Windows 10 Mobile

On Windows Mobile 8.1 the smallest pinned live tile for a contact would have no continuous animation, but would show the number of total messages from that contact. A total of missed calls, texts or emails. This was very useful. I would pin my wife and
children, using a favorite picture of each, to the start screen and could quickly tell if I had any messages or missed calls from them. The medium sized tile would have continuous animation where each contact name would scroll down over the live tile of their
picture. This was totally annoying with the constant movement and I obviously knew each of their names. I did not pin a contact as a large size live tile so I do not know how it worked; however, I expect that it showed some detail of the missed calls or messages.

Under Windows 10 mobile the live tiles for pinned contacts are currently not working on my phone so I cannot tell how new tiles are supposed to work or if it is just an error on my phone. I did ask the local Microsoft Store tech support and they said and
showed to me an example where the smallest pinned live tile showed nothing, the medium sized tile had continuous animation and showed details regarding missed calls or messages. This would be very unfortunate if the smallest pinned live tile showed nothing.
If to get detail one needs to have continuous animation I would probably not use it. Too much bouncing around of tiles makes one sea sick. It is much more important to elegantly use the live tile capability to show information which is useful.

This is why I asked if there was someplace I could go to find out how each size of tile is supposed to work, because what the Microsoft Store technician showed me was different and unfortunately so.

Excel File Start Menu Live Tile

How do I pin an Excel file to the start menu on Windows Phone 7 to make it into a live tile? Ideally, I could also link a cell or 2 so that it showed it's value on the live tile animation. Thanks.

I've just seen this and the new Aero transparency effect on the start menu. Both look really nice! These latest builds are starting to look really good.

    Thanks Shawn.

Heaven help us all. Didn't Microsoft learn from the animated/dancing desktop icon fiasco of Win 98?

I was wondering if they were going to reintroduce live tiles. Something looking more like 8. Very informative feature.

A few of us did. I think I'm on it right......
...yes I'm on it right now.
It's pretty good actually, but there are some weird things going on inside of it.
Everything but the 'People' App is working.
