I really appreciate all the help.

I'll try to look up the commands you speak of.

I'm primarily a gameplay software engineer for unity3D.

I have tried three keyboards and three mice, all usb. I don't have a PS-2 anything any more. I tried lots of combinations of unpluging/plugging things in at different times and ports. Nothing gets powered. I verified that all of my devices are working correctly on other computers. Its like the Windows 10 isn't recognizing my motherboard. Its an Asus motherboard from a few years ago, a reasonably good one.

One mice and one keyboard are pretty basic generic keyboards. Was considering buying yet another basic keyboard tho.

I am not sure if it makes a difference, but I had two monitors hooked to my graphics card. I was wondering if that was causing a issue so I also tried different combinations of plugging in monitors to no avail.

They are NOT detecting after unplugging and plugging back in? Maybe just try only the mouse. You don't need to buy a new mouse, go to a salvation army and get a cheap 4 dollar mouse, and old MS IR mouse. Because my system did exactly this the first day I used Windows 10, once I got past it, the drivers loaded correctly. Look all you need is an old PS-2 KB, I'm positive it will allow you to log in. So check any nearby Thrift store.

I am probably using the exact same MB as you are using, it's an Asus M2N-SE Mb from around 2006, and the only problem I really had was with my MS Mouse, it would not detect.

I have noticed that MS systems are crappy when it comes to USB driver support, I've had similar problems in Windows 8 too. You are basically stuck until you can log in, and you can't log in with the USB input devices.

Login in prompt will not show, keyboard and mouse wont work.

It has nothing to do with your keyboards or mouses, download yourself a windows 7 DVD install disk and boot from it then follow this for the admin account.

    1. Boot from the DVD

    2. Click SHIFT+F10

    3. Type regedit and press enter

    4. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

    5. File menu click Load Hive

    6. In the file name field type %windir%\system32\config\SAM and hit enter.

    7. Name the Hive Test. Click ok, If you have more than one partition and the file comes up prosess in use you need to navigate to the correct partition, windows\system32\config\SAM, Name the Hive Test. Click ok

    8. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\test\SAM\Domains\Account\Users\000001F4

    9. From the right side pane double-click the F entry.

    10. The line that starts with 0038 is what you want to edit. The value next to 0038 is 11, replace it with 10.

    11. Back in the Registry Editor, from the left side click on the name you gave to the hive you loaded earlier and from the file menu click unload Hive.

    12. From the File menu, restart the computer and you are done. The Administrator account is now enabled.

    13. To remove the admin account follow the steps again and put the 11 back.

Will he be able to get to that account if his Lockscreen is jammed up? Let me know if that worked. But I'd borrow a PS-2 KB from someone just in case.

No guarantee of booting but it has no password and if if it does boot he can create a new user account.

That's the thing there a no guarantees we are all trial and error with 10.

I'm pretty sure I was only able to get past it when it happened to me, cos I have an old crappy Dell PS-2 KB. Most new systems have only USB support, but ASUS normally puts the PS-2 inputs in. After I logged in the second time, new drivers got loaded and it stopped. Maybe I'll remove the PS-2 KB and connect my other USB kb and see what happens.

Well it's unfortunate that not all problems are the same as yours or you would be the knowledge base to consult, and if you live to be 100 you will still never be the said base.

I just d/c'd my PS-2 KB and I connected my USB kb. It's never been connected to this PC ever, but it lit up and allowed me to enter my password.

So I don't know what the fook is going on with his system, but if it's not detecting his mouse or KB, he still can't get in. If he has no password, perhaps your long-winded fix will work. *regards*

(edit) found THIS - Note what "Ayevo" has to say about it.

    Hm:

"Bio: Ratty and the Watchers are committed to raising awareness about wolves and the cruelty perpetrated against them."

That's pretty worthy, thanks. Listening to "Blood on their hands" right now.

  15. I solved my problem.

Followed steps to create a recovery disk:
Recovery Drive - Create in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
You can find it in the system settings. It says "windwows7" as part of it, just ignore that.
I just burned it to a cd but a usb key can work too.
My BIOS wanted me to confirm loading from a CD by pressing a button. It said 'any button' but it seemed nothing worked until I tried F1.

    I followed the steps from:
Start Windows 10 in Safe mode
I first tried the "Start-up Repair" which apparently didn't help. It says it failed. I looked at the log for the fail and it said it was for an incompatible version. This was confusing because I burned it off of another windows10 system.

Then I forced safe mode by using the console option and entering:
    Bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu yes

Which allows me to restart and get to the "Windows Boot Manager".
Here I had to press F8 to get advanced options.
    I picked "SafeMode with Networking".
This allowed me to get to a working login screen. My keyboard and mouse were working so I was able to log into my account.
Unfortunately as part of safemode it seems that windowsUpdate is disabled.

I went through a few itterations of the above trying different things.

I uninstalled a bunch of programs that might be suspect.
    Avast Anti Virus
    Advanced System Care
    Adaware
    driverbooster
    etc.

    Restarted again.
Finally had responsive keyboard/mouse. I was able to click on the screen I first showed, it moved up and I was able to get at the login fields. I was able to log in correctly.

I think I might not have updated Avast Anti Virus fully before I started the upgrade on my desktop. I think my lap top didn't have a problem because I updated my antivirus the other day.
It might've been fixed by something else I did. Anyway, I'm up and running again. I wish I had those 8 hours of my life back but I learned a few things.

Thank you everyone for your efforts to assist me.
