Windows 10: Lost my start menu window

The little windows square at bottom left on screen has stopped showing the startup apps - I can still get to them in a list with a right mouse click. How do I reset this to give me the pictorial display with Cortina ?

Today i updated my Windows 10 and I got new start menu with all my programs (Like the one on old start "all apps") on left side of start without clicking it and my lost plain and simple start menu. So i am asking is there a way to reverse to the old start menu.

 

This: Just run your task manager (ctrl+alt+del - task manager) find explorer (Windows Explorer) click on it and hit del button or right click and end the process. After that your bottom bar should disappear. Hit ctrl+alt+del again in right bottom corner of the screen choose the power button and restart your computer this should fix it.

 

Didn't work - deleting windows explorer gave me a blank screen - only way out of that was to switch off the PC. On restart the windows icon still does not work.

 

1. Use a system restore point - if you've enabled system restore.
2. Use a previously created disk image- we strongly recommend the routine use of disk imaging so you can rescue yourself from many difficulties- including a failed drive. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free).
