    Memory Corruption

I've come to my computer several times in the last few months to find that it has restarted. Looking in event viewer I see that it wasn't expected. Each time I've found an error similar to the following: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000c4 (0x0000000000002000, 0xfffff809d5d1a25c, 0x0000000000000000, 0x00000000444c534b). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: aa106d5a-835b-4562-9cf4-cd372ad95fd2.

When I look at the dmp files it seems to be pointing to memory corruption. I've run the built in Windows memory diagnostic as well as memtest86. Neither of those found any errors. I'm attaching the zip generated by the tool from the posting instructions. I noticed that it didn't grab the memory.dmp, but it is too large to add to the zip, so I'm unsure of how to upload it. I don't know if that will provide any additional information or not. Any insight on this is greatly appreciated.

  2. Corrupt Memory

My HTC HD7 reset itself, all apps are gone, all music is gone, it's at the factory setting BUT the memory is full. I tried to format it and it still has the memory as full. It's as if the file database has been corrupted. When I connect my phone
to my laptop, the memory bar shows up grey and completely used up. Any ideas would be much appreciated, doesn't give me a lot of faith for my HD7 (which i absolutely love)

    Hello,

Not sure what you mean by "I tried to format it..." just guessing that you performed the reset to factory defaults from Settings - About - Reset your phone

I would connect the device to the Zune Software and check the value for "Reserved space" in Settings - Phone

And check if the value is not set too high like 95% (by default it's set to 5%) in that case the summary page shows Free 0.00MB MB and I cannot sync.

Note that the the phone summary page shows the reserved space as gray.

If this is not the case I am afraid that there would be HW problem on the device. I would suggest contacting the Mobile Operator or the retail shop for service/replacement. Sorry.

    Best Regards

    Martin V.

    Memory Corruption

    Hello travisc,

The c4 error indicates that you are using Driver Verifier. This should not be running under normal circumstances unless you deliberately activated it. Then you would run it for no more than 48 hours during which time it will identify if you have any problem drivers on your system and the BSOD events will show you which ones. In your case it is pointing to MpKslf7900685.sys but as this is a Microsoft temporary driver I doubt if it is connected to your problem.

If you want to run a memory test we recommend memtest86+ but must insist that it is run for 8 passes or more. Did you do this? If not please repeat the test and post a photo of the result so that we can see the parameters that were recorded.

Thanks for the response. No, I didn't run it for 8 passes, just 1. When you say post a photo, I'm guessing that you want me to take a picture with my phone or something, right? There isn't a way to get the output through memtest itself, is there? Also, I ran memtest86, not memtest86+ is there much of a difference, should I be running the + version?

I did turn on driver verifier the last time it crashed, although I thought I had reset that already, I must not have. Since it is about 2 weeks in between each crash, I guess running that for only 48 hours won't help anyway, so I'll get that reset.

I'll try to run the mem test over night tonight, hopefully that will make it through the 8 passes.

Yes, a photo of the screen is best since the test does not provide a text report. Here are the details of what we normally request:

    Memory Corruption [IMG]
    Diagnostic Test
    Memory Corruption [IMG]
    RAM TEST

    Memory Corruption [IMG]
    Run MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 10 Forums

    Memory Corruption [IMG]
    Note
    Memory Corruption [IMG]

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 complete passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

    Addition:
If errors show up you can stop the test, remove all sticks but 1 and test this single stick in each slot for 8 passes or until errors show, switch sticks and repeat.

I followed the directions to make a bootable USB key. However, when I boot from it, I get a message that says Missing Operating System. It then just boots from my normal drive. Is this supposed to work with Windows 10? Should I be using memtest86 (without the plus) instead? That is what I ran last night and it worked.

I found a thread where somebody said they just tried a different thumb drive. So I gave that a shot and it booted. Not sure what was wrong with the first one, but everything is running now. We'll see what the results are in the morning.

After the Memtest86+ version 5.01 testing for 8 or more passes please use a camera or smart phone camera to post an image into the thread.

Then run HDTune ane each drive:
    HD Tune website
    to check the health,
scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
    run a benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following
    the health,
    the error scan,
    the benchmark incl. following
    transfer rate,
    access time,
    burst rate,
    cpu usage.
Take Screenshot in Windows 10 General Tips Tutorials

For each drive please post 3 images into the thread: health, full error scan, and benchmark

Open administrative command prompt and type: chkdsk /x /f /r
Run chkdsk /x /f /r on each drive.
Using the information in this link please post the eventvwr results into the thread for each drive:

It finally finished. It made it through 8 passes without any errors. I'll start doing the checks on the hard drives later tonight. My kids need to get some homework done now that the computer is available.

Here are the results from the drive my OS is installed on. I'm working on the rest of the drives, but I have a question. hdtune only reports the drives as 2199G, but the rest of my drives are larger than that. I have an internal 3TB drive, and then two 4TB drives that are in a drive bay connected to my computer over USB. Will that mess things up that it only thinks they are 2199G?

Here are the results from hdtune:

The chkdsk fixed errors in the volume bitmap.
    The HD tune passed.
The memtest86+ version 5.01 test passed with 16GB ram with 8 passes.

Windows error reporting indicating that the Nvidia graphics card was related to the bsod.
This may be confirmed in the memory dumps.

    Post a new zip:
BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums

And post a memory dump using a one drive or drop box share link:

memory dump file: %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP or C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP

Use file explorer > this PC > local C: drive > right upper corner search enter each of the above to find results.

The event logs also indicate that you have had had problems with the Nvidia graphics card:

The best way to fix the misbehaving Nvidia driver is to uninstall everything Nvidia using Display driver uninstaller and install new drivers from the computer manufacturer's website or from the Nvidia website.

The computer manufacturer's web site is preferred. Enter the computer's serial or product number and the operating system to view available drivers.

If you use the Nvidia web site be sure the "clean install" box is checked and only install the graphics driver and the physx driver.
