That said, I've read a number of Paul Thurrot's post, but obviously not at his site. Had I not seen the above I would have argued you down *Eek

Though it's good info to know, it's verging off topic.

  3. Well, Cortana is their *****, umm, I mean employee/tool, so obviously. *Zip
I was just revising my tweaks and there are ~8 ways, MS delivers ADs, so far.
You can not even disable some of them, because they randomized, like services.

And Microsoft really wonder why people are so reluctant to move from earlier versions to their shining new lovely helpful (coughs) O.S.

I use shut up 10 from O&O, does all the tweaking for me !

  12. I'm not seeing any of it? And I've only turned a few things off manually like "Occasionally show suggestions in Start". No Cortana here though, only standard search is in the Education version.

That's a pretty minor pop-up, and informative. I don't really consider that an ad as much an announcement of what the OS is capable of. When's the last time you read a computer manual? It's no like when you first get the computer it forces you to run through a half-hour tutorial first.

    Hi Folks

I just use Windows basically for Office 2016, Photoshop , Vinyl record creation via an XP VM, and a couple of Video editing / capture programs.

If Windows is going to riddle itself with ads then IMO it's the beginning of the end -- there's not much actually Linux can't do these days -- and if someone could ever make a really good email client then as WPS OFFICE is as good for 90% of things that OFFICE can do then Windows really needs to look out for the future.

We are all aware that businesses need to make money - but doing it by annoying customers is NOT a good business model.

Problem is I think nobody has worked out a good way of DECENTLY monetising online stuff without irritating users whether they are on phones, tablets, or computers.

    Cheers
    jimbo.
