    Microsoft Edge and Bleachbit hacking

    Hey everyone,

I am one of the biggest contributors to BleachBit (FOSS rival of CCleaner) and I am trying to hack up a cleaner for Edge.

Been looking around some directories for an hour and a half and I stumbled upon the "Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge (Insert a bunch of characters here)" folder where another site mentioned that Edge's cache lurked.

My question: Where on the hard-disk is the History, Cache, etc etc located?

    Thanks! *Smile

    :)

Hi Nelso. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

You can reset Edge in Settings>Apps>Apps and Feature, scroll down to Microsoft Edge, highlight it, choose Advanced Settings, then Reset.

If that doesn't help then try re-registering the app following Option Two here:
    http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3175-apps-re...

Finally you can reinstall it from this link:
    http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-reinstall-mic...

If nothing else helps then run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This will also bring it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    %localappdata%/packages

However, generally you would check Process Monitor if you want to know. This is trivial.

That you are even asking such basic questions on a public forum will not generate a lot of confidence in your product if it is meant to be a cleaner. If you don't know how to use procmon I'd honestly have doubts about the rest.

    Ha ha ha...
Was this meant as some sort of trolling or insult?
You're speaking to someone who uses GNU/Linux on a regular basis for both work AND pleasure.
I could go on a rant about Piriform and how some individuals who helped Snowden out used BleachBit in their works but I do not want to digress from my issue further.

    Anyway ...

I've already been to the packages directory and did not find any data pertaining to history or cookies or ... anything.
I went into the Microsoft.MicrosoftEdgeblahblahblah directory and... nothing.
I used CCleaner in order to locate the directory(ies) where the files were specifically and followed the trail.
The directories AND files that were printed in CCleaner (And yes I used "Analyze" and NOT "Delete" in CCleaner) were NOT in said location when I used Explorer in order to confirm.
I also used dir in CMD in the listed directories and got the same result: No "History", "Cookies", etc directories.

I forgot to write this in my original post.
Perhaps I've run into a bug of some sort?

What were your results from procmon then? That is how you find what files edge opens - and I already told you.

Please don't ask people again to help you hack or rip-off CCleaner. It isn't polite tbh.

  7. Well theater, sorry I can't troll you, or tell you how inept you are, or how bad your new product is because you ask a question, but let me see if I can get what you are asking for.

Preceding on the assumption I understand you, I MAY have a solution, but first I have another question lol.

When you were looking for cookies, if you had already cleared your history or have your settings to NOT allow cookies, there would of course not be anything in the directories. If that's the case, allow cookies then try in again.

You could also use SAS (Super anti spyware) SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware! for the same task. Scan your computer with it then follow the directory to the cookies. Meanwhile I've texted a buddy to see read this and see if he can come up with something for you.

Good luck with your program. It will be hard to usurp CC though, it's been around forever, it's free, and folks trust it.

Ignore the trolls. Even if they know something, usually the price is their arrogance and put downs which is way to high to pay.

Oh and writing a similar program to another is NOT a rip off. Or maybe it is and Windows is just a ripoff Apple.

Try this: View and delete your browsing history - Windows Help

See if any of it applies to edge. Surely they didn;'t throw the whole baby out with the bathwater when they ripped off other browsers to create the edge.

EDIT: Don't try that lol. I posted it before I read it. That link is totally useless lol.

To be fair so has BleachBit - it is well respected software and has been around since at least 2008 (according to Sourceforge page). I have used it for years - it is excellent.

However, for Windows (for Edge for example) you use procmon to see what it uses. You can't just ask a random person and delete that file. On any OS. That isn't trolling - it is common sense.

Anyway - as I said they are in %localappdata%/Packages

For me (on 10240 and the version of Edge below):

    Cookies: D:\Users\Hali\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\Cookies

    Cache: D:\Users\Hali\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\Cache\<Various folders>

    History: D:\Users\Hali\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\History\ containrer.dat
