Windows 10: Microsoft edge automatically opens 100s of tabs points to the same microsoft help page on...

Windows Edge will, totally at random, open up hundreds of tabs going to Microsoft Edge Help.
Multiple virus scans and malware found nothing. Resetting Edge did not work. Resetting Window 10 did not work.

REINTALLING windows 10 from a DVD did not work.

When the laptop is not connected to the internet the "windows tips" app open and says to connect to the internet so I uninstalled it also.
I stopped using Edge but when connects to the internet it automatically opens 100s of tabs.

Then I installed eset antivirus and blocked the site that the edge points to. No help with that as it says website blocked by opening microsoft edge again

Please help me solving this.This wasted a whole day for me. I really hate microsoft edge for this reason

Appreciate your welcome and your prompt response - I have appreciated your advice on this forum in the past, especially with the registry fix for choosing where to save downloaded files from Edge!

I have checked my Edge settings, and they are as follows:

• Open Microsoft Edge with new tab page
• Open new tabs with a blank page

So I can't see any reference to MSN here... it even diverts via this URL if you click on a saved favourite site!

Glad of any further advice or suggestions please.

 

Stop Microsoft Edge from opening last session instead of home page

Let's try them again. The first would be to open Settings in Edge and see what 'Open Microsoft Edge with' is set for. Try changing it to 'Previous pages' then close Edge. Open it again and change it to 'New tab page'. Restart the PC and see if the problem returns. If it doesn't, you can then set it for your preferred setting (if that wasn't the new tab).

Do you have a Microsoft Account? If so, is Edge set to sync settings across accounts? It may be that Edge on another device you use is set to open previous pages. Either turn off sync or check that none of your other devices have Edge set to reopen previous pages.

Do you have another sign in for this PC? If not, make a new local account as a test. Does Edge have the same problem in another account?

If none of the above help, or if it is only the current account that has the problem, try resetting Edge for the current account, Step 2 in this tutorial. If all accounts are affected, try Step 3.
