How to Reinstall and Re-register Microsoft Edge in Windows 10

Microsoft Edge is a new web browser that is available across the Windows 10 device family. It is designed for Windows 10 to be faster, safer, and compatible with the modern Web.

If you are having any of the problems below with Microsoft Edge, then reinstalling and re-registering Microsoft Edge may help.
    • Microsoft Edge doesn't not open when you click/tap on it's icon
    • Microsoft Edge is missing from the Start menu
    • Microsoft Edge is not listed in default apps.
This tutorial will show you how to reinstall and re-register Microsoft Edge for your user account or all user accounts in Windows 10.

*note This will not help if you uninstalled Microsoft Edge for all user accounts.

    Here's How:

    1. Do step 2 (current account) or step 3 (all accounts) below for what you would like to do.

    2. To Reinstall and Re-Register Microsoft Edge for Current Account Only
    A) Open Windows PowerShell.

    B) Copy and paste the command below in PowerShell, press Enter, and go to step 4 below. (see screenshots below)

    Code:
Reinstall and Re-register Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 [IMG]

    3. To Reinstall and Re-Register Microsoft Edge for All Accounts
    A) Open an elevated Windows PowerShell.

    B) Copy and paste the command below in PowerShell, press Enter, and go to step 4 below. (see screenshots below)

    Code:
Reinstall and Re-register Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 [IMG]

    4. When finished, close PowerShell, and try opening Microsoft Edge again.

    That's it,
    Shawn

I pasted in as Administrator the correct command to reinstall and re-register EDGE to all accounts, in an elevated command Power Shell ISE app. The completed VERBOSE line stated it had completed successfully the action. I however am unable to successfully open fully EDGE. I only get a blinking window (quick less than 1 second). The older Package for EDGE was deleted to the recycle bin, and all folders went there successfully. A new set of same folders now appear within the EDGE path location. My original problem began with EDGE delaying in its responsiveness and then showing page recoveries. However that was short-lived and the browser just failed to open. Please note that when the Microsoft Rewards Points page is opened, I was able to secure the "bonus" points for the EDGE icon to my Microsoft Account until just the other day. Now the bonus button does nothing but open to an "untitled" TAB, and no points are added to my account on the Rewards page. Please help as I have nt been fully able to use EDGE since back the end of March 27, 2017.

    Thanks for your help.

If you haven't already, you might see if resetting Microsoft Edge using the method in the tutorial below instead may work for you.

I followed the exact instructions, and reset the 78 K of data contained within the App program. I was unable to sign in under my Microsoft account since it said there was no data for that profile. I tried to create a test sign in account, to see if there was a working EDGE app on the task-bar desktop, but as before the blue e was there but no underline blue active bar. Oh, by the way before I even did this, I no longer could use Microsoft Rewards under my Account name to secure the bonus points that came from pressing the EDGE rewards button, and still seeing an 'untitled' tab within Chrome 61 rather than an open active EDGE window with the bonus points added to the account. However, now there are no added points, and that icon and button still show as if the button was not used (no filled in green color for completion). Why can't Microsoft just remove EDGE from its current package location and in an update place it within the usual windows program files as other browsers go, so that in Control Panel, one can modify, uninstall, or reinstall the EDGE browser. Placing it within a App Data\Local\Packages file location makes it totally not repairable by usual means. I am not the expert in knowledge of computer programming, but it seems to be a global issue caused at some point by coding presented within a cumulative update the end of March 2017, or added core components by way of those KB updates (series of numbers). Calls to Microsoft through my computer manufacturer's (Dell), DTC (Dell Tech Concierge service) have said they are aware of the problem, but no one states when it will be fixed by a patch by the Windows Update programming (coding) team. So what to try next as a possible fix? I am thinking it is going to be almost impossible for their Update team to find a line or series of coding lines that caused the initial problem with the delay response to edge, then the final disappearance of the Window beyond a split second blink when the task-bar is pressed.

I had to do a repair install of Win 10 when EDGE first started to exhibit its delayed response time, freezing, then showing recovering pages, so I don't want to again go through trying to get back all of my other apps from within the windows.old folder, as well as finding that html file with listing what was removed by the repair upgrade. So if that is thge only other option, then I guess I am stuck no longer with a working EDGE browser or ability to earn daily added Bonus points on Microsoft Rewards. Maybe one day UPDATE will create a patch for its problematic browser that seems to be able to reinstall, re-register by some, and for others like me, across the world, we are at the mercy of the so-called [programming repair team, Microsoft claims to have on-board (3 teams of 5 individuals) working on the coding line by line. Personally I don't think there is such a series of teams, and they use whoever they can get to code the cumulative Win 10 Pro 64 bit updates, without regard for any known issues or established bugs. *Sad

As a complementary tool, to avoid loosing important bookmarks, I suggest to back-up them with the very useful freeware tool EdgeManage. This way resetting Edge should be much less "destructive" for the users.
