Windows 10: Microsoft Edge - Fall Update 10586.3 Where are Favorites?

There are no files found in C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\Us er\Default
where the favorites for Microsoft Edge should be. I have "Hidden Files" turned "on" in "View" in File Explorer.
I cannot find them using the utility program "Everything" which lists all files on the computer and offers filters for searches.

I can see all the favorites in the Star tab in the Hamburger menu in the upper right side of Edge.

I deleted all of the favorites from Edge, thinking they might be in OneDrive - although I could not find them in my OneDrive web page either.

Then I disconnected from the internet and imported all of the Internet Explorer's favorites from c:\Users\{username}\Favorites . They all went into Edge.

I then looked in C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\Us er\Default and, again, no files found.

I changed a file name in my IE Favorites folder, but no change was made to Edge's Favorites. Also, that change was not put into the C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\Us er\Default folder.

Reconnected to Internet and everything remained OK regarding using Edge favorites.

Still can't find the Edge favorites files in my computer. The only thing I can figure is either:

1. MS is now putting the files somewhere else in encrypted file(s) where the favorites cannot be found in a search.

or

2. There is a "Super Hidden File" setting that MS used in the update and it is a bug or they intend to leave it that way - regarding C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\Us er\Default

If anyone has an answer please let me know.

Downgrading to Creators Edidion 1503

Does anyone know where I can get the downgrade please? I don't like the this Fall Edition, its very slow and my Microsoft Edge lags, much preferred the creators edition before I got the automatic Fall Edition upgrade in windows updates.

 

Windows 10 - Cannot print documents from Microsoft Edge browser

I am happy to report that after updating my Windows 10 installation to the November Update, version 1511, build 10586.3, the print preview function works now in both the Edge browser and the Mail app.

 

Funny thing. Updated my Nextbook 2-in-1 and favorites are right where they should be. So, still can't see favorites in folder on laptop, but can in Nextbook. What gives?

Found the Edge favorites in Fall update 10586 they are here: C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\Us er\Default\DataStore\Data\nouser1\120712-0049\DBStore\Spartan.edb.

They are there on both of my computers.

The update left the favorites from the prior version in C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\Us er\Default\Favorites in one of my computers. The other computer had no favorites at the time of the fall update (I had gone through a reinstall of Edge just before I updated and there were no favorites.

So this solves the mystery.

According to Project Spartan Forensics | Forensic Focus - Articles the "Spartan.edb" File is used to store your reading list. So im not quite sure if thats the file you´re looking for.

Yes, that's the ESE database file that favorites in Microsoft Edge are stored in.

However, restoring a backup copy of the Spartan.edb file to the same location has no affect when testing. It doesn't restore the favorites from the back up.

I have seen my favorites disappear twice during various Win10 upgrades. I think I will keep my Cyberfox browser favorites up to date as I cannot trust Microsoft not to mess this up again.

Followup:

I made a copy of the Default folder in which the Favorites and DataStore folders, among others, are kept, and copied it to another WIn10 machine after first deleting that machine's Default folder.

Then I restarted that machine.

Edge came up with the same favorites it had before I copied in the Default folder.

But when I went to the Favorites Settings and clicked on the Favorites Bar there, I saw the favorites form the other machine and they then took over as the Favorites on the machine that got the copy of the Default folder.

The results held after that machine was restarted.

So maybe restoring is possible after all. Wouldn't that be nice! I'll now set my backup programs to save the DEFAULT folder in its entirety.

Good to know. I'll try that when I get the chance. I have used a program referenced elsewhere - maybe in this thread - named ESEDatabaseView.exe - to look at the contents of the Spartan.ebd table. I see the contents but do not make much if any sense of what is there.
