  1. Multiple BSOD Errors - Suspected Hardware issue

    Hi,

For the past 14 months, I've been having BSOD issues as well as frequent CTD's in gaming (potentially unrelated). These started after a power supply failure and I've been unable to isolate what is causing the issues. I've performed CPU stress testing (AIDA64, Prime95), run a full Memtest, flashed my BIOS, replaced my GPU, reinstalled Windows 10 and updated all of the drivers I could think of including multiple instances of upgrading GPU drivers after using DDU. The most common errors are DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION, and ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY. I just learned about this community and am anxious to see if you can provide any insight into what may be causing the issue. Logs below:

    Thanks!

  2. Multiple bsod errors. Faulty hardware?

    Hi,

File was OK though of no real help. So I am still thinking memory.

In addition to my last reply :

If you are using an SSD be sure that you have the latest firmware. Ensure all HD connections

    are tight.

If using a Readyboost drive remove it to see if that removes the error.

If nothing works consider re-installing Windows - it that does not help then hardware

    is further implicated.

  3. Multiple bsod errors. Faulty hardware?

Don't forget to try Driver Verifier since it can detect a software issue that might not

be indicated in a usual Bug_Check.

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    1) sfc /scannow
    2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    3) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread
    4) chkdsk /x /f /r
This may take many hours so plan to run overnight.
Please run it on each drive adding the applicable drive letter to each command.
Use the information in this link to find the chkdsk reports in the event.vwr and post the results for each partition:
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials

    5) Make sure that there is no over clocking while troubleshooting.

    6) Sometimes there are problems in the bios that produce bsod.
The BIOS: Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. F5, 5/30/2014

    7) Please check to see if this is the most up to date version.

    8) When you have the link for the computer's drivers post the URL into the link.

    9) To ensure that there are no improper bios settings please reset the bios.

    10) Sometimes there can be failure to boot after resetting the bios.

    11) So please make sure your files are backed up.

    12) Please make a backup image with Macrium:
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free:
Macrium Software | Your Image is Everything
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

    13) And please create a brand new restore point.

    14) Run HDTune on each drive:
    http://www.hdtune.com/
    to check the health,
scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
    run a benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following
    the health,
    the error scan,
    the benchmark incl. following
    transfer rate,
    access time,
    burst rate,
    cpu usage.

    15) Run memtest86+ version 5.01 for at least 8 passes. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
This may take hours so plan to run it overnight.
Please make sure you use the Memtest86+ version 5.01 with the link below.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
The testing is done not by time but by passes.
    The more passes the better.
There are a significant number of false negatives if fewer than 8 passes are made.
A false negative is a pass when there is malfunctioning RAM.
There is 16 GB of RAM on the computer.
    Memtest86+ version 5.01 testing takes approximately 1 - 2 hours /GB RAM
Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing.
Then test 1 RAM module at a time in the same DIMM each for 8 or more passes.
When Memtest86+ has completed 8 or more passes use a camera or smart phone camera to take a picture and post an image into the thread.

    16) Please post the memory dump file: %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP or C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP
File explorer > this PC > local C: drive > right upper corner search enter each of the above to find results.
Use a one drive or drop box share link to post the results.

    17) The Windows version is 1703. Did you want to upgrade to 1709?

    18) What is the graphics card history. Which card were you using? Had you switched graphic card manufacturers? If you switched what was the approximate date?

  7. Wow zbook this might be the best response I've gotten to anything, ever. It'll probably take me a few days to get through all the troubleshooting, but I'll keep good documentation of the process. Thank you so much and I'll post back once I get my results!

  10. 18) - I switched from an AMD R9 290 to an NVIDIA Geforce 1080ti on approximately September 13th, 2017. This has resolved some of my BSOD issues and they are now much less frequent. However, I'm still experiencing a number of crashes to desktop when playing games.

    4) Uninstall everything AMD using Display driver uninstaller

    5) Install new Nvidia drivers from the computer manufacturer's/motherboard manufacturer website or from the Nvidia website.
The computer manufacturer's/motherboard manufacturer's web site is preferred.
Enter the computer's serial or product number or the model and the operating system to view available drivers.
If you use the Nvidia web site be sure the "clean install" box is checked and only install the graphics driver and the physx driver.

  12. Multiple BSOD Errors - Suspected Hardware issue

Posting a new dm log collector file since I've had a couple of blue-screens since the last update. Let me know if I should pull the MEMORY.DMP file again.

Since my last update, I've performed the following:
    1. Ran DDU to remove all AMD and NVIDIA drivers and Clean-installed the newest NVIDIA driver from their website.
    2. Completed the HDTune testing on all drives. (Attachment showing results included below)
    3. Checked for old AMD driver files (atikmdag, etc.) (None were found, see attachment below)

The last thing I have on your suggested list the the MemTest86, which I'm going to start tonight.

Again, thank you so much for your help with this. I'm really hoping we can get to the bottom of the issue.

The dumps, event logs, windows error reporting all display the last crash and BSOD were on 11/10/2017.
That is 1 week without a windows report of a crash in the logs.
Were you referring to application crashes or something else?

    The computer's windows: Version 10.0.15063 Build 15063
Are you considering upgrading from 1703 > 1709?

  14. I did have a crash where everything locked up and I got the sound I associate with BSOD (loud buzzing from speakers). However, it never blue screened and I decided to power cycle after a few minutes.

I finally completed MemTest and it looks like I found the culprit. I had two errors on my 8th pass. See attached picture. Do you think this is the most likely cause for my crashes? If so, I'll order some new DIMMs today.

Thanks again for all your help with this.
