I should've mentioned that with some DISM commands it looks like the command is stuck at some point, but in reality there is no problem. It can take up to a few hours before it finishes and until the last few seconds may look like it is stuck at 20% but then suddenly finishes. It fortunately doesn't cause any problem when such a scan is interrupted.

Because we've made a few changes I'd like to know if the problem still persists *Smile

If you've done any of below suggestions, just try it again and let me know what the results are.

    Diagnostics Test
Multiple Crashes, Freezes and BSOD's [IMG]
    Clean boot
    Please try the following:
    • Open taskmanager
      • Go to the tab startup
      • disable everything
    • Search msconfig and open it
      • Go to the tab services
      • Check 'hide microsoft services'
      • Uncheck all other services
      • Click apply and click ok
    • Reboot if asked
See if the problem persist, if the problem does not persist enable in the startup tab in taskmanager 1 item and in the services tab in msconfig also 1 service, reboot and see if the problem persist. Keep doing this until you find the culprit or there is nothing left.
If the problem still persist, try booting in safe mode and see if the problem still persist

Run SeaTools to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use - Windows 7 Help Forums
    Run following tests
    • Short Drive Self Test
    • Short generic
    • Long generic
If the short generic fails, no need for the long generic.

Note Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

    Run HDTune to
    • scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
    • check the health,
    • benchmark.
It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
Let me know what the results are
    • of the error scan,
    • make a screenshot of the health of every hard drive and post the screenshots,
    • post screenshots with the benchmark of the
      • transfer rate,
      • access time,
      • burst rate,
      • cpu usage.
Best is to make screenshots/photos of these test results too.

    Ok so,
I did all that, it didnt ask for reboot, and has been working fine since (6+ hours)
Ran the sea tools and it passed fine.
    ChkDsk was also fine.
    HDTune turned up no errors.
I have attached the screenshots from the health and benchmark (something opened part way through the benchmark and started reading hence the decrease).
    Thanks *Biggrin

It isn't a big deal that you don't have screenshots, it is just so I won't forget that you've done them *Smile

That is odd, msconfig should ask for a reboot when changes have been made.
Please make sure that the services are all configured per my instructions, it should ask for a reboot once you click 'OK' after 'Apply'.

Yeah I thought that, I'll check it when I'm next at my PC in a few hours, as this crash is random how should I go about restarting the services one by one, like is one boot without crashes for a few hours enough? Should it be 3? 5? Sorry if that doesn't make sense *Smile

A few hours should be enough, if no problem occurs enable 1 service & startup item, reboot and see if the problem persist, continue this until you've found the problem or there is nothing left to enable.

Well good news is I have had exactly 0 issues since turning all of the crap off. My only concern is when i turn them back on the suspect thing (if there is one) wont crash it straight away and make it harder to identify *Sad
