    Hey Steve if this is about the file "dm_log_collector.exe" please let me know if it happens again. After This coming Monday. I have been told by Norton that this ONE file has been added to their "whitelist" so when the user runs "live update" in the next day or two it will not be removed.
    So if it is still happening just give me a shout. *Smile

  2. Hello essenbe,
    [No rush; at your convenience.]

    I'm planning on running an .iso file from one of my secondary hard drives. [or should it be mounted first?]
    Is this correct?:
    Windows 10 Tech Bench Upgrade Program Documentation
    Filename: <Win10_1511_1_English_x64.iso> - 4.11 GB
    -
    Does the below mean the .iso file is only good for 24 hours? Or what Links is it referring to?
    Links valid for 24 hours from time of creation.
    Links expire: 5/15/2016 3:18:57 PM UTC
    Thx
    /jdU

    I am not familiar with the HP settings. But, usually in the boot configuration in your BIOS there is a setting called secure Boot, just change that value to off or disabled, whichever option you have. The repair install is done while inside Windows. Use the TechBench download link (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/techbench) and save the ISO file for later use. Be sure to uninstall your AV and the X10 program first and make sure you have your activation Key, although you shouldn't need it. If you don't have it, Showkey should find it for you (https://www.tenforums.com/software-ap...7-showkey.html).

  5. Hello essenbe,
    I'ld like to mount the .iso file, but need assistance [because my computer came with Power2Go (?)].

    From these directions:
    ~~~
    Directly Mount ISO or IMG file
    1. Do step 2 or 3 below for what you would like to do.
    2. Double click/tap on the .ISO or .IMG file.
    3. Right click or press and hold on the .ISO or .IMG file, and click/tap on Mount.
    ~~~

    Double click opens a Power2Go 'Burn Disk' window.
    Right Click doesn't give me a Mount option. I'm thinking changing the default to Window Explorer is the correct choice, but would like confirmation/guidance.
    See attached.

    Thanks,
    /jdU

  7. Thanks OldMike65,
    Easy enough!
    I did have to change in properties "Opens with Windows Explorer" also.
    Works perfectly!

  9. Hello (Who's on first today?),
    I'm trying to do everything correctly for a Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-Place Upgrade - My system: HP Pavilion HPE h9-1110t Phoenix - I'm trying to disable secure boot - but am having no luck finding where to do this. I've search HP Setup Utility and the closest thing I can find is : "System Security -> Data Execution Prevention"

    Perhaps this machine is strictly BIOS - it came with Win 7 four years ago and was never upgraded to Win 8 or 8.1.

    "Or Option Three for HP PCs:
    Secure Boot - Enable or Disable in UEFI
    but what to do here?:
    HP Customer Support | HP® Customer Support" <- was no help.

    I'm thinking I need to confirm BIOS or UEFI and If BIOS, is this step (disable secure boot) unnecessary?

    Thanks in advance for you thoughts/comments. (If I sound confused, I might be. *Confused)
    Best,
    /jdU

  11. Howdy essenbe,

    Expanded Disk Management screenshot is attached. Also I'm including a Macrium shot I sent a few days back. I'm doing a copy&paste of my explanation on that ... here:
    --
    P.S.: When I had my IT Guy handle the SSD installation (Samsung) using the transfer software we agreed to remove the old System Restore Partition since I'll never want to go back to original factory state. I asked him to leave all the files on the original Hard Drive (now D:\) in case there might be something I needed later. He tried to remove the Restore partition on the original drive after the transfer and somehow everything on the disk got deleted. He copied the "C:" data from the SSD to the Hard Drive (D:\) and decided not to touch the 100 MB partition on the SSD. It sits there in red annoying me, but what's 100 MB?
    -
    I'm pretty sure it (100 MB) was totally empty at that time. Now it has 3 "old-date" files and a "Boot" folder dated the same as the date Win 10 Upgrade was done. It included data on different languages all old dates and these 3 files with the date of the upgrade:
    BCD{5b531b54-08c9-11e6-8a8e-e840f20c8749}.TM.blf
    BCD{5b531b54-08c9-11e6-8a8e-e840f20c8749}.TMContainer00000000000000000001.regtrans-ms
    BCD{5b531b54-08c9-11e6-8a8e-e840f20c8749}.TMContainer00000000000000000002.regtrans-ms

    Some Google search time told me some computers have Win 10 creating 3 partitions ..., so, since otherwise this machine is working very well, I just accept it as what? Just, "Oh, well ... *Huh"

    Macrium shows this best so see the capture attached.
    Maybe you'll find it interesting.
    FYI: I renamed that partition to "Data (Q\)" as it is an alpha character "out of my sight".
    And my CD/DVD Drive is "DVD (O*Smile" [O for Optical]

    The way your IT guy did the install makes it difficult to tell too much. It looks like everything is contained on your C drive. In a UEFI install the 100 MB partition would be named EFI System Partition or in a Legacy install would be named System Reserved. If I were to guess, I would say you have a Legacy install. I would first make a good system image with Macrium and verify it. Then disconnect 1 wire from each of the other 2 drives making the only drive connected the Windows hard drive. Have nothing connected except mouse and keyboard. Uninstall your AV and the X10net program. Then run the repair install.

    Quite frankly, if it were me, I would do a clean install, but a repair install will not take much time and is certainly worth a try. Once the install is complete, do not install anything. Check out how things work and use it a little and see if your problems are fixed. Of course, come back here and let us know.

  13. My Norton AV tells me: "dm_log_collector.exe is not safe and has been

    ...er...
    I purposely moved everything except windows 7 System & Program Files off of C:
    D: is my main personal data disk, E: is another data disk partitioned in half making Z: my backup disk.

    Yes the 100 KB was named System Reserved, so if that means it was a Win 7 Legacy Install, do I not need to worry about Disable Secure Boot?
    -
    And also avoid disconnecting the 2 secondary hard drives. (?)
    i.e.
    Just give it a try and if it doesn't work then accepting that a Clean Install will be the only choice including re-installing all my software. (?)

    If you don't mind doing it, disconnect 1 wire from each of the drives and reboot. Just to make sure you can boot without them connected. I assume you are meaning you moved your user folders to the other drive. If you did that, when you reboot without them connected, you will be OK but Windows will show some error messages. It's OK. Reconnect them then, if you want to. I just want to make sure your boot files are where they are supposed to be. After that, go ahead with the repair install. Leave the drives connected. But, do disconnect everything from the computer except Mouse and keyboard and uninstall the X10 program and your AV. Then do the install. It won't take real long.

  15. OK, I think we're (almost) on the same page.
    "User Folders" = all my personal files, not "Windows User Folders"
    Is that what you mean ... or did you think I moved C:\Users\Donn\Documents ... et al to other drives? No I did not do that.
