New to windows 10, experiencing error code "memory could not be read"

    Hello,

thank you for checking out my post. About a month ago a friend convinced me to make the jump from windows 7 to 10. It's been great since I've customized it to my liking, however...this morning, before work, i experienced something I've never seen before. When I went to the action center to check my mail, using the mail app integrated in windows 10, it froze. Very quickly i got this screen from the OS saying "oops, something went wrong..." and before I could read anything else it rebooted the pc. Now I keep getting a flashing screen with an error code. Now that I'm back home from work I can't seem to figure this error out, so I am writing this in hope that someone else might have seen this on the web or might have gone through the experience and learned a fix.

The screen flashes and it seems like my icons are trying to load (Every time it flashes it has the correct image for the icon or the "white page look" i see on files when windows doesn't know what application/program to use to open said file). I can't open or access anything. The only thing on my pc i am able to interact with is the error code which reads "Werfault.exe application error: The instruction at 0x00007ffc0d5c1621 referenced memory at 0x0007ffa8d4f0000. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program. If I click ok it just reopens the error message and continues on flashing. At one one I was able to open the windows start menu, just to see the pc freeze. If I try to open task manager to see what might be causing the issue, I get this error: the sign-in process couldn't display security and sign-in options when Ctrl+alt+Delete was pressed. If windows doesn't respond, press esc, or use the power switch to restart".

    Current pc:
    Video Card : Radeon RX-480 8GB GDDR5
Processor : AMD Phenom II X4 965 Processor (liquid cooled)
    Memory : PNY 16GB DDR3 [2x8GB] 1866Mhz
Operating System : Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Edition Service Pack 1 [anniversary update], 64-bit

Any help or ideas would greatly be appreciated. I've tried removing the RAM and re adding it, as well as dusting out the fans in my pc and graphics card.

    Thanks again,

    -Tim

    :)

    Hi,
Type Services in start, highlight "Windows Error Reporting Service", disable it and see whether it fixes the problem.

  7. Do you have restore points enabled?

If so, can you enter the Troubleshooting menu and invoke restore.

Here is a tutorial on ways to access

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html

That said you may wish to try repair option before restore.

Here is tutorial on Start up Repair

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html

I watched your video. As the tutorial says, repair fixes certain problems. Yours is actually starting but failing, as I see it, at the Login.

When you get it back up you will want to shut Auto restart after crash off. That way you can read the BSOD.

Thank you for your reply, I do have two restore points, I've tried both and I still have the same error. I've tried every option in the blue start up repair page. I tried to:

Go into advanced options and trouble shoot the PC by
-reseting the pc (by selecting both "keep my files, and remove everything) they both start "resetting the pc" but after loading it to 49% it says undoing changes; then I have an error that says "there was a problem resetting your PC, No changes were made.

    Going into advanced options
-using my system restore point from the night before the PC started glitching, and Dec. 25th of last year; neither work.
-system image recovery (i have none, so I couldn't use it.)
-start up repair, It starts to diagnose the PC, then I get an error "Star up repair couldn't repair your pc, Press 'advanced options' to try other options to repair your pc or 'shut down' to turn off your PC. Log file D:\WINDOWS\system32logfiles\srt\srtrail.txt
-go back to previous build gives me the error " We couldn't find a previous build to take you back to. Try resetting your current build instead (Troubleshoot > Reset this pc)
Last I tried opening the command prompt and doing a disk check, which i waited hours for to finish, just to find out there were no errors.

    -edit-

Going to try a few more things

I actually tried, from my laptop, to create a bootable flash drive for windows 10 (source: Access Denied) But it seems it won't let me. It wont let me create it on a flash drive and keeps telling me to free up 8gb of storage my C drive. I have a windows 7 laptop, so I'm assuming the software keeps trying to prep this PC for the update, despite the fact I keep selecting the option to create this for another PC.

    Unknown pc problem - YouTube

Started reinstalling itself, but now it as an error after saying "let's get things started".

It says "scripted diagnostic native host has stopped working".

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

It just has a black screen with my anti virus Kaspersky showing. Its doing the same memory error that disaplayed when the pc flashes originally and ctrl alt delete still doesn't work.

  11. Assuming you have your data backed up safely I would abandon repair processes. That is just me. I see you have a custom built PC so you know what is involved in a clean install. Yes, lots to do but you know you have a clean base to go forward but a known quantity.

If you were using the Windows Media creator it won't let you create a USB key on a Windows 7 machine, really silly. This seems to be about the only thing that changed when the free upgrade ended, which it didn't. I believe there are other process for creating key within forum.

Download the ISO and create a boot disc. There is a good tutorial on this in the forum. Once you are going again create a recovery drive.

This is what I would do.

Other members reading may have a different opinion.

Thank you, and yes, I assumed at this point I'd need to make a boot-able device, It stinks I only had a flash drive and there's a snow storm. I might pick up a small pack of blank disks at work (if they don't close before I go in). For some reason my only backups are now corrupt (i tried using them one more time last night) and it seems the pc keeps trying to boot into the guest account i have for my friend, and it just gives me a black screen. I very much appreciate everyone's input and feedback, it means a lot you guys took your personal time to assist me.

    Thanks again,

First head to the tutorial on Clean Install. Brink outlines how to make a bootable USB using Rufus.

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html

Amazing amount of data in tutorials.

When you are back up you should create recovery drive and use Macrium reflect for Images. Free, proven software used by a number of members.

Hope tutorial keeps you out of the weather.

So, i wound up taking the route of Rufus yesterday, and the installation went without an issue. However, The PC, on a clean install, keeps giving me the BSOD. [Error: Stop Code: Critical Process Died] I can't seem to pinpoint the issue. I tried running CMD as Admin and used the command "sfc /scannow" to find corrupt windows file. The verification completed and it's final results read "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.LOG windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note the logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios". I've done multiple hardware tests, re-added drivers, and even "repaired windows".

I've tried looking for the errors through google and tried to resolve the issue but I can't seem to. I'm considering another installation of windows. Before I do, I was just hoping to pick anyone's mind to see if they might have solved this or know anyone who has.

    Thanks,

    -Tim

Hi, Let's do a basic check. Given you don't know the cause of your problem and a fresh installation of Win 10 did not succeed, I would try verifying your disk. I believe in your video you said you'd swapped the RAM and graphics card, so let's discount the RAM for now, assuming your hardware is all consistent.

Download and create Kyhi's boot disk (DVD/flash drive etc) from the top of the Software and Apps section.

Boot your PC from that. This gives you a Windows-like environment independent of your disk.

Download and use Crystal Diskinfo (portable version available, free) and check your drive's smart params. (Gives a quick green/orange/red indication too).

If you want to try a further check: try Macrorit Diskscanner (free). This will do a surface scan.

If all is ok, I suggest you format your disk and reinstall Win 10. (Of course you can retain any data partitions, but make sure all Windows related partitions are removed - that includes the 16Mb one Disk Management can't see.

    =============
Noted a hint here - something to check in your BIOS if you read towards the end:
