    Num Lock problem during startup


    Hi All,


    I'm using Lenovo G500s Laptop for more than 6 Years. Whenever i turn on the laptop or restart it for the windows update, the laptop is getting stuck in Lenovo Logo with num lock button enabled in the keyboard automatically.


    During startup, the num lock button will enable by default and stays longer till i manually remove battery and reboot it. Sometimes, it will go off during startup and the Screen will boot to windows.


    Why this is happening? What can be done. Please help me out on this as windows updates are still pending.

    NUM Lock issue

    Hi Karl,

    The status of the NUM LOCK key is specific for each user, and NUM LOCK is disabled by default. If you want the NUM LOCK key enabled for use before a user presses CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on, you must use Registry Editor to change the default behavior.

    To enable NUM LOCK before a user logs on, follow these steps:

    • Run Registry Editor.
    • Move to HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.
    • Change the value for InitialKeyboardIndicators from 0 to 2.

    IMPORTANT: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these

    Num lock

    This problem began after the Anniversary Update.

    I have chosen to logon with a pin number. The num lock is on until the startup reaches the lock screen, then the num lock turns off.

    I don't have this problem on restart.

    Just to note, this below is only for num lock on the sign in screen. Double check step 2 below to see if you may need to temporarily turn off Fast Startup.

    Enable or Disable Num Lock on Sign-in Screen in Windows 10

    Normally, you Windows 10 will have num lock on or off depending on how it was when last shut down.
