How to Add or Remove 'Open with Notepad' Context Menu in Windows 10


Adding "Open with Notepad" to the context menu of all files will allow you to quickly open that file with Notepad without setting Notepad to be the default app for that file type.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove Open with Notepad from the context menu of all files for all users in Windows 10.

While you must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove the "Open with Notepad" context menu, all users will be able to use the context menu item.



EXAMPLE: "Open with Notepad" context menu






Here's How:

1 Do step 2 (add) or step 3 (remove) below for what you would like to do.


2 To Add "Open with Notepad" to Context Menu of All Files
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

3 To Remove "Open with Notepad" from Context Menu of All Files
This is the default setting.

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

Step 1. Open with > choose another app




Step 2, click More apps





Step 3. scroll down to the bottom of the list to find Look for another app on this PC





Step 4. browse and find Windows Media Player wmplayer.exe then click Open

 

How to remove item from Context Menu (after app removed)

It's not in the open with context menu (tried the steps from the link just to see, but no it's not in there). The app from the context menu is in the first layer, the one when you right click on an item and you have "scan with..." or "edit with notepad++" etc.
