Windows 10: PC accidentally shut down while updating to windows 10 anniversary

My PC accidentally shut down because electricity problem while updating to windows 1607 anniversary and when i turn it on its show black screen with restoring to previous windows version text. Whats going to happen ? Is my windows going to corrupt ?

I've Been Using Windows 10 For about 4 Months and 8 Days. Yesterday That, I accidentally Force Shutting Down my Laptop while there is a Latest Update. And Then Today, It Just Entered "Diagnosing Your PC" Mode and won't get out. I
tried Force Shutting Down And Turn it On Several Times, but I'm still stuck at the "Diagnosing Your PC" and it's still beads circling in the loop. How do I escape it With/Without resetting some of my Games and Stuffs? This is a Catastrophe!

Sorry to hear that.

In all probability your installation is damaged irreparably.
Your disk needs checking. (chkdsk - which can be run from a bootable medium).
Then there is an absolutely outside chance, I suppose, that you might be able to roll back to your previous version. I'd rate this ver very unlikely indeed, but you could just try:

- boot your PC from a Win 10 installation medium
- navigate to Advanced Options, Click on 'Go back to the previous build'

That's if it will let you.

At this point I'll ask if you have yet realised how invaluable disk imaging is.
If you had been using disk imaging, you could, 40 -50 minutes, much less if using a SSD, have restored you PC as it was. (Macrium Reflect (free) e.g. + its boot medium + external storage). This is the sort of scenario where this is so valuable.

Without that, your first thought now should be 'how much data can I rescue from my hard drive', and 'what haven't I backed up'.

 

I have had instances of an interrupted update where after you reboot (sometimes more than once) it will resume where it left off, or you'll have to start over.

That's a best case scenario, worst case is your existing install is irreparably damaged. As dalchina pointed out, the best insurance to something unforeseen like this is to have a backup/image of your present installation. Many recommend Macrium Reflect, there are other 3rd party backup utilities, that's something you need to decide what's best for you.

There's also the built in windows backup and restore function. I've used it since Win7, it's saved me a few times, and a couple times on W10 too. Even though it says Backup and Restore (Windows 7) in Control Panel it works just fine for W10. I have mine set to do a backup/image every Sunday at 7:00pm to an internal HDD specifically for that function.

I can't say enough about how easy it is to set up and do, and as easy to restore from an image using bootable media for you OS. The times I've had to do it in less than 30 minutes I'm up and working using the most recent image.

P.S. Almost forgot about just doing a system restore using a restore point before problems ensued, that's the easiest and least hassle way to get a bootable, working computer. W10 turns it off by default so you may not have any restore points, IMO that's not a good thing to turn off by default.

 

Hey thanks for you guys answer, after my windows finished restoring to previous version its just work fine, but why i lost my windows update file? When i tried to check for updates its said i am not yet downloaded anniversary update for windows and i just about the run update again. Its fine ? But i believe i lost the update because windows restoring to previous version,.

 

On my first attempt to do the update I was left with an unbootable system. But I had an image backup of my boot drive on a separate hard disk. I also had a rescue thumb drive with the software needed to restore my backup to a non-running system.

Bottom line: I had my system back and fully operational in 7 1/2 minutes. Of course a large part of that is due to my boot drive being an SSD, but even with a HDD it would have been just as easy.

Macrium Reflect Free is what you need. Get it.

 

Even if it did download "completely" and then you lost power I wouldn't trust it to be complete. WU doesn't know whether or not it has the OS update already downloaded, it knows what's been installed.

My advice, go to this tutorial https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9...-download.html use option #1 and download the iso, that way you'll have it without having to download it again. That iso is both Home and Pro, you need to choose either x32 or x64, whichever your computer has. You can use Rufus to create a bootable iso for repair/reinstall of the existing version (once you get W10 1607 up) Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

You'll have an iso on hand for W10 1607, if you want to install from the iso, go to where you saved it on your computer and double click on setup, the install/upgrade will start.
