Windows 10: Remove OneDrive Folders from Libraries?

Alright guys,

I actually do use OneDrive, and I am not trying to remove the app entirely. However, it seems like if I remove the OneDrive folder from my libraries (music, pictures, documents), next boot they show right back up.

This is incredibly annoying as I actually want my folders isolated... Documents is my local documents, and only the stuff I want put in the cloud is in OneDrive.

I have been having the same problem since windows 8.1 with onedrive constantly re-adding itself to my libraries. I shall be keeping a close eye on this thread for a hopeful solution *Smile

• Have you made any changes in settings prior to the issue?
• Can you see any error message or error code on the screen?
• Did the error only start occurring when you upgraded to Windows 10?

If the OneDrive folders keep getting added back to the libraries, then it sounds like something is still saving to that location causing them to get added back.

Double check your default save locations of the libraries, and double check any programs that may be saving to them to see if that may help.

That's just the thing, though. I don't want to completely disable OneDrive integration - I actually want my files to be synced... I just don't want it showing up in my libraries. Everything else is fine. There's a separate OneDrive tab in Explorer, I access my files that way.

The green circle with white check mark on the added OneDrive folder is just to indicate that it's synced. It's not a default save location.

 

Yeah, I know, but I'm showing you that I already had my offline folder set as default and yet the OneDrive folder showed back up mysteriously.

So I'm not sure how else to get it to stay gone...

 

I just tested on my system, and it seems that only the OneDrive folders that have files to sync get automatically added back to libraries. If the OneDrive folder is empty, then it doesn't get added back.

I don't think you can stop it without disabling OneDrive folder syncing.

 

I dont exactly remember but there was a fix, you had to bend backwards and hop on the right foot. Also, check the task scheduler for One Drive and sync stuff, sometimes triggers will take actions like this. If the folder isnt there it many just create one. I seem to recall you had empty One Drive folders, disable sync, and maybe something else, reboot, then you could change default locations.

 

Nothing in task scheduler from Microsoft. It's all third-party stuff like Adobe, Google (Chrome) and CCleaner.

 

Expand down into Microsoft, One Drive is still listed as SkyDrive, there are 2 tasks there.

 

Mine doesn't have that.

 

Well that is amazing, is that from a clean install or upgrade? Try looking in your policy settings. gpedit.msc.
