Well unfortunately it's just deleted my main account and all its data. So I have no previous version to return to or restore points....and still no internet access in this version.

There goes 7 years of stuff, including all my current songs and current projects....which as a freelance musician and composer is pretty bad -_-

I suppose now is time for a clean install?

When selecting the option to roll back to an old version it told me I had to delete the new account that was made in the new version. This was odd as I made the new account in the old version, so I checked the user accounts and it only had 1 listed. So I chose that to be cleared and it has cleared my main account as well as that 3rd account that had been floating around. To be honest I don't have a clue how it's happened. Not even too sure what to do now, I'm left with a system running a Windows version with no internet which I can't seem to rectify :/

I have never heard of this before! That's crazy. I am so sorry this happened.

Your data could be recovered using a recovery program., but you would have to stop using the computer - you don't want anything else written to the drive, which might over-write your data.

A new hard drive would be required, and a data recovery program. The clean install would probably get the internet working. It would also give you a more stable operating system.

Take a break; let me know what you want to do.

Thanks and no worries, it's a shame but I'm a very talented musician and composer so I'll just make new music. You've been excellent help so far and I know you did all you could to help.

I think it's time to just do a clean install. I can do that on my current hdd and don't need to 're purchase Windows right?

Sorry to see your loss. *Sad

Yes. It will have digital rights that's recorded on a server.

Would you like instructions on a clean install or can you handle that?

Ok. First problem is the incompatible NIC card, Yes?

Do you have the option to temporarily use Ethernet by any chance?

I've been using an Ethernet cable the entire time, it still doesn't pick up a connection, worked fine as soon as I rolled back to the old version then would stop again after updating. I tried different Wi-Fi sticks I have as well, none worked.

Also thanks very much for the links wynona

I see. I thought it was WiFi you were having trouble with.

Do you think you can pull that card out temporarily to do the work around as discussed?

Do you have install media? If not, you will have to use your friend's PC to make some.

Do you have an 8GB or higher thumb drive? If so, follow this tutorial to make the install media: Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

You can also burn a DVD if you'd like.

Do you use and sign in with an Microsoft account?

This is where this is all headed. Not very complicated at all.

    Insert install media.

Set BIOS to defaults and save.

Hit the boot key for your PC.

Pick the drive (DVD or thumb) to start the install process.

When the very first screen appears (OOBE screen) press and hold SHIFT then F10 to open Command Prompt.

Use this tutorial to clean the designated drive:

Erase Disk using Diskpart Clean Command in Windows 10 Hardware Drivers Tutorials

Close out Command Prompt and continue with the install process. Let Windows manage it all. Use MS account or local. Skip the screen to insert the keys since you have digital rights. It will activate. Pick and choose what features you want.

If you like I can post the cleaning commands here.

    Hi.
Sorry I had to leave for a bit.
If you are going to clean install at this point, Wynona gave you the link in post #81.
    I will mention this though:
    1. Your BIOS is very old. There is a UEFI version available for your MB now. If you want to switch from Legacy to UEFI, now would be an ideal time to do it.
    2. The NIC should work fine with a clean install. All the problems I found with it, arose with an update from Anniversary v1607 to Creators Update v1703.

That's better yet then. No need to pull the card.

UEFI Bios is better, but the existing legacy BIOS for an MBR scheme will work if it worked for you before. Up to you.

The reason for the cleaning is that it wipes most of the data off the disk so there's little trace to taint the new data. Much better that way.
