    Shutdown then Immediately Restarts

I'm going to perform another full backup before updating the BIOS. It's odd that HP's own Support Assistant does not pick up on the BIOS update ver F.30A (I'm running F.21). The Readme for the update package states it's for Win 10 1709 update issues. 1709 hit my system last week just before all of this madness...

Successfully updated the BIOS but that did not fix the shutdown = restart problem.
    1. Windows displays this issue.
    2. KNOPPIX displays this issue.
    3. After updating BIOS it still has the issue.

Hi, my understanding is that you unplugged ALL the peripherals, right?
Maybe the problem is with a mechanical part of your laptop, like the power-on button.
The third thing that comes to my mind is the faulty power supply, so I would unplug it and use the batteries only (just once, to exclude even the least probably causes).
And lastly I would update the GPU's drivers (directly from the producer's site).

    Shutdown then Immediately Restarts

I spent two hours with elevated Tech Support at HP and they're having me send the system to Repair.
We ran through resetting BIOS, updating BIOS, resetting CMOS, various boots with/without peripherals. The Tech was actually quite knowledgeable and did not treat me like an idiot (you know, "Did you press the power button to turn on your computer?")
Another owner of this model had the same issue and posted on the HP forums that he had to send it to Repair and the motherboard, graphics card and power switch were all replaced. His computer was one model series before mine but some of the hardware components are probably the same.
I'm going to leave this thread open until the system gets back from HP. I'll report the fixes here to close the loop.
Thanks everyone for the guidance and help.

  6. Just a thought, if you are connecting via HDMI. do you have CEC enabled on the bluray player. If so, this may be causing it to restart. To test disable CEC mode.

I ran the log collector and it opened a command prompt then disappeared. No report and no log files in the sub-directory from where I ran the .lnk.

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    1) sfc /scannow
    2) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    4) chkdsk /scan
    5) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread
    7) run the log collector again and post a zip into the thread:
    log collector v2-beta06.zip
    8) If the above log collector does not display the folder on the desktop then run this log collector
    9) Run this log collector:
BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums
    10) If the above 2 log collectors fail then run this command in administrative command prompt and post one drive or drop box share links into the thread:
Code: md "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles"&wmic /output:"%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\hotfix.txt" qfe list full /format:table&copy %SystemRoot%\minidump\*.dmp "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles"&type %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts >> "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\hosts.txt"&systeminfo > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\systeminfo.tmp"&findstr /v "Owner." DM Log Collector appeared to peruse the various logs and reports in Windows. It created the folder TFdebugFiles on the desktop but File Explorer reports that file is unavailable. Neither File Explorer or XYplorer can see the folder on my desktop.

Running the command line version of what appears to be the DM Log Collector created .Zip file on my desktop which is empty.

    Shutdown then Immediately Restarts

I sent the unit to HP Repair. They replaced the motherboard and returned the unit to me within 7 days with no scratches or dings. All appears functional now. There must have been a bad batch of boards because numerous threads on HP Forums discuss this issue.

Thanks to all here for the assistance.

    Your welcome.
    Thank you for the feedback.
Download and install the HP BIOS UEFI hardware diagnostics:
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Official Site
Run version 6.5 on the computer so that you have a baseline.
To run the diagnostics power on the computer and repetitively click the F2 key > extensive or loop until failure testing.

That is a great idea to set the baseline. I'll do it now.

    Thanks, zbook.
