    Stuck on tablet mode?

    Hi.

I had problems with autohiding my taskbar and found out that restarting Windows Explorer might help.

That was big mistake; after doing that my desktop went full black, only taskbar showing but not working and I restarted my computer. After restarting computer, desktop worked normally, but taskbar is not working in the way it used to. It won't show any icons and I can't select "Start" or "Search".

Found out that I might be stuck on tablet mode. Tried to open settings (only blue screen with "screw"-icon showed, then it jammed). After that I tried to open Action Center, but cant find that. Also Win+A or Win+S won't work.

So basically I think I'm on table mode, but there is no way I can toggle it back to desktop mode. Am I right?

I'm now really frustrated, what should I do? And sorry for bad English.

    :)

If your desktop (not Tablet) gets stuck in "Tablet" mode, go to Windows Search bar and type in "Tablet".

System/Tablet Mode will appear. Make sure Tablet Mode is "Off"

    Welcome to the TenForums @Sabetti

First do a complete shutdown of windows, hold shift key and click power power off. You may have to use ALT + F4 to get menu.

If that doesn't work can you perform a system restore? Hopefully this will take your registry back to a time before all this started.

Windows + R, sysdm.cpl, System protection tab, system restore.

    Welcome to TenForums @Sabetti

I'm afraid not. It's difficult to tell from your description if you are in Tablet Mode or not, but that doesn't matter. In all modes the Win+A and Win+S should work. Something is not working properly. It could be your user profile. Do you have another account you can log in to? If so, does the taskbar work for that one?

Try using Ctrl-Alt-Del. Do you get a blue screen with a list of options - Lock, Switch User, Sign out, Change a password and Task Manager? If so, for now just click 'Cancel' and let us know.

    Thanks for the answer.

About your first advice, what "power power off" do you mean. I can't open menu and when I press shift + power button on left side of my computer, it just goes to sleep mode (like it usually does when I press it). I also don't have F-buttons here, so no F4. Any other way to get there?

About your second advice, I tried already system restore. I am unable to do that. It only tells me that backup not created or something, not sure how to say it in English.

If you got any more advices please let me know.

    Yes, that does work.

But I have no other accounts in this computer, already tried to create another one but it tells me to go to settings which I am unable to do.

Good. Do it again and select Task Manager. If you can get Task Manager to run we may be able to use it to run things like the Control Panel from where you may be able to create another local account.

Ken means hold Shift and click on a power button displayed on the screen, normally the one on Start. As you can't get Start to open there is a power button at the bottom right of the blue Ctrl-Alt-Del screen you could use.

Yes, I am able to open both Task Manager and Control Panel.

Meanwhile I wait your answers, I try Ken's method now when I found Power Icon.

    Thanks

Hey guys, that complete shutdown solved problem! Every actions (Settings, Taskbar, Win+, Start menu etc.) are working correctly now after that! Thank you so much, I was stuck with this like three days. Thank you so much!

  11. Great. This windows Fast start is great except when it isn't. The total shut down starts windows fresh and while most people think this happens when they power down it doesn't. Sorry for the typo, @Bree has my back. *Wink

    So glad to hear that.

I was busy looking up ways to create a new account without the use of Settings. You don't need it now, but for future reference you can create a new local user from an elevated command prompt. See Option Six.
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...a.html#option6
You can also use the command prompt to make this new account an administrator, Option Four here...

Now you have Settings back, you might like to create a second account and make it an administrator. It can be useful in emergencies to have another way in.
