Windows 10: System Repair Disc

I'm running Windows 10 on an HP Envy All in One. My preferred backup method is a System Image Backup. When the backup completes it always prompts me to create an System Image Disc. The problem is the this computer doesn't have a built in CD recorder/player. Are there any workaround suggestions.

System Recovery disc should work with the anniversary update, still we suggest you to create a new recovery disc as Windows 10 anniversary update has new features.

I am not familiar with HP imager on win10.

However, you can use kernsafe Totalmounter ( it is free). Create a writeable iso. You could then extract it to usb drive using e.g. Rufus or similar.
KernSafe iSCSI initiator, Virtual CD/DVD-RW Emulator, Virtual Encryption Disk and Virtual CD/DVD-ROM Emulator All-in-One free software.

A USB Recovery Drive (without the system files included) is functionally identical to a System Image Disc you would have produced on a CD.

With the system file included it becomes more powerful than the CD, in that it will contain all the source files needed to reinstall Windows and perform a factory reset (including any OEM customizations).

I gave you a link to a TenForums tutorial, all you need to know is there....

 

I purchased an external USB-connected CD/DVD reader/writer for my two laptops; you might want to have such around because:
-- you can also make CD/DVD rescues as a "backup" to your USB boots
-- there are still over-the-counter software packages that come with install CDs or DVDs

By "it always prompts me to create an System Image Disc", I think you meant "it always prompts me to create a System Repair Disc".

A Windows 10 installation disk can do everything that a System repair disk can. You can make one from the ISO file that you might already have downloaded to install the latest Windows 10 version. You can make it directly onto USB. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...dows-10-a.html

I hide all the USB root files and folders on mine to prevent accidental deletions and then use the rest of the space on the USB as a general backup drive. The installation disk still functions correctly even with those items hidden.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. (Note to Try3.....yes I did mean a System Repair Disc.)
I have decided on a USB repair and I'm just curious about the approximate size of the repair disc. Just let me know and then I will mark the thread closed and solved.

 

In Windows 10, the CD produced if you get it to make a System Repair Disc contains the same files and folders as a USB recovery drive without the system files included.

 

1) See if you can find a flash drive that you can format ( > or = 8 GB)
2) Make a bootable Windows 10 iso:
Download Windows 10
3) If you have a bootable computer you can repair operating system corruption with an in place upgrade repair:

4) Make backup images of the drive and update the images monthly or more frequently if needed:

Macrium's Rescue Media is (are?) also worth building. Comes as part of Macrium Reflect and Macrium Reflect Free. Their Windows boot repair facility is as good as anything else I've found. Worth adding to your toolbox of repair/rescue disks, IMO.
