Most issues related to updates are caused either by the security software or by the lack of a proper maintenance. You could try running Wise Disk Cleanup and advanced Windows Disk Cleanup, check health and file system as well.

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    if corrupted, run:

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

A few more commands to run, just to kill the time:
    Code: fsutil usn deletejournal /d /n c: chkdsk /scan winmgmt /salvagerepository del "%temp%\*" /s /f /q del "%systemroot%\temp\*" /s /f /q Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & cleanmgr /sagerun:65535[/quote]

The above link worked fairly well. The method that worked best was running command prompt from safe mode, one of the safe mode options. The built in command prompt from troubleshooting options didnt work.

The source files could not be found.
Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see Configure a Windows Repair Source. " This also happens with the sfc command

  5. You need to load Windows ISO/USB and select the source manually. See option 1, part 7.

I'm currently facing the same problem. My start menu button are not working, the notification bar too. File explorer, Chrome works on the taskbar though and I'm able to right click on the taskbar to reach task manager.

The other thing is Windows Store doesn't want to run, including games that came from it. Both my Candy Crush Saga and Soda just gave me a black screen and closes itself after a while. Microsoft Edge also could not be executed. Stuck at the blue "E" logo forever. EDIT: oh yeah and other MS programs also don't work for me, like Calculator, Calendar, Sports. Looks a lot like this https://i.imgur.com/sSx9Rvu.png

Just installed the compatibility update MS released but I didn't notice anything different and the problem still persist. Help!

Currently using a "Classic Shell" as an alternative for start menu, but really not looking forward to keep this as the permanent one. Also, sfc /scannow couldn't find anything, some strings that was meant for "Powershell" also didn't fix this issue and I'm really hopeful that someone here could help me out, and others who are also experiencing the same situation

    Udonitron ,
Any chance you've turned off the UAC? Doing that screws up a lot of things.

Whoops just wanted to updated my situation (Start menu not working, Window Store and other apps not launching)

I uninstalled the app "AeroGlass" that I had previously installed, and once it finished uninstalled, I clicked on my Start Menu, welcome back! YES!

Me too, I have spent the day broken since getting the updates. I am now restoring to a mid February image after booting from my Macrium rescue CD. I could not use any applications or menus or right click or cmd. Following this thread.

Update, later - after my restore I was fine, no new Windows updates had come down, but as soon as I applied the Avast antivirus update I was broken again. I cleared Avast off the computer and so far I am fine. I know that the smart people here have been advising me to do this for a long time, I finally did it... So if anybody has Avast and just applied the updated provided yesterday, this may be a big part of your problems.
