How to Turn On or Off Google Chrome Page Prediction in Windows

Google Chrome has the page prediction settings below turned on by default to improve the speed of browsing, and make your overall experience better.
    • Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar: These suggestions are based on related web searches, your browsing history, and popular websites. If your default search engine provides a suggestion service, the browser might send the text you type in the address bar to the search engine.
    • Use a prediction service to load pages more quickly: Browsers use an IP address to load a webpage. When you visit a webpage, Chrome can look up the IP addresses of all the page's links and load the ones you might navigate to next. If you turn this setting on, websites and any embedded content that are pre-loaded may set and read their own cookies as if you had visited them, even if you don't.
While page prediction may be useful to some people, others may want to turn off page prediction for the following reasons:
    • Using Internet bandwidth preloading web pages that you may not open.
    • Could be a privacy issue since some anonymous data and statistics might be sent to the server to make this feature better and more reliable.
This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off page prediction in Google Chrome for your account in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

    Google Chrome does not respond

This is a problem with Chrome Version 65.0.3325.162 (Official Build) (64-bit) running under Windows 10 64 bit.

When I start Chrome, nothing happens. From time to time, a "page unresponsive" dialogue box appears.

Chrome's task manager shows a CPU load of around 27%, but nothing happens for several minutes.

The following has been done with no impact: clearing browsing data, running the Chrome cleanup tool and clearing all browser extensions. Again, all this has been done and nothing has helped.

Hardware acceleration also has been turned off.

    Updating Chrome has not helped.

The troubleshooting steps are the ones typically suggested by Google support. None had any impact.

A posting in Google's forum led to in uninstall suggestion that did not work.

Trying 32-bit Chrome did not work.
