  1. Undoing changes made to your computer, can't get into safe mode & can't boot from USB...

I have been using Windows since vs. 3.2 so I am not a novice. I have an Acer Aspire S7-191. I purchased it with Windows 8.1 and upgraded to Windows 10 years ago. Windows sent me a message whose window I could not close stating that my version (1803) of Windows 10 will not be supported soon and I must upgrade. I didn't want this update but the message would not go away. So I started. It stalled at 48%. After hours and some research, I killed it and started again. This time it told me I didn't have enough drive space. I deleted every user file from my laptop (documents, photos, music etc). I tried again. It said I needed 10 gb free to do the update. (Why do I need 10 gb to do a 4 gb upgrade?) I thought Windows wasn't properly keeping track of space used since deleting all my files only freed up about a gig. Apparently I have more than 120 gb of only system files and MS Office?

Frustrated, I connected my external hard drive with 30 gb free space. This time it made it to 52% when it stalled. When it was unsuccessful, it said "Undoing changes made to your computer." I let it run for hours and it never finished. After reading the solutions online, I killed it and tried to get into safe mode. With external drive connected, it goes straight back to "Undoing changes made to your computer." With the external drive disconnected it says, "Please insert the external media and press OK." I cannot get into safe mode no matter what I do.

I also have a USB recovery drive which I have used twice before due to other problems so I know it works. Windows will not read the USB with or without the external drive connected.

I decided to use my husbands laptop which is newer than mine to do more research and to write this question since mine is dead in the water. You can imagine how thrilled I was to be forced to take the new version of windows on this machine against my will after pausing updates for 7 days. Anyway, it did finish and seems fine. One big difference between his laptop and mine is RAM. He has 8 gb and I only have 4. Maybe that's the real problem? Also, reading online, it seems that a lot of people with this same problem started with windows 8.1 like me. My husband's machine came with a clean install of Windows 10 from the git go. In any event, I don't know what to do about it.

    Can anybody help me?

    :)
