(Updated) BSOD For unspecified 124 STOP

Well this is great. Got stuck at 11% for about an hour on C: then restarted automatically. Upon restart, I got a BSOD. Then it tried to diagnose and repair and finally ended on a screen saying the only thing to do is restore an old version. Why would this happen? Power was never interrupted, and I never touched the computer durring the operation. Does this mean it is the drive? I noticed both drives running around 50c, but I didn't think that was too hot.... What now?

50c for a hard drive is very hot, my hard drives temperatures don't come near 40c usually.

What this means is that the system shut down because the hard drive likely couldn't funtion properly under that much heat, depending on how long the hard drives have stayed at 50c they may have gotten damage.

Before we continue I would want to ask if you have a backup of your data.

I have no backups of either drive, nor the hardware to do so. However, C: contains no data that can't be easily retrieved, and D: appears to be fine (chkdsk is working for it but is not yet complete).

The temps of 50c may have been an anomaly. Despite me recreating the conditions I last saw them at 50c under, they will not rise above 40c, and idle at ~36. Maybe it was my mind playing tricks, or a fluke, but it's not something I can reproduce.

I want to bring a couple other things up in case theyare useful. I have yet to see a BSOD for the ntoskrnl crashes due to a screen of vertical lines of two alternating shades of the same color being shown until restart. It looks much like this

    24xoyg2.jpg

But will be dinfferent colors depending on what was on screen right before the crash.

Looking at that forum post (which I just found) I'm starting to really think it's all the card's doing.

That brings me to another point. Various programs (namely battle.net lately) have caused my graphics drivers to suddenly crash and cause GUIs to break until restarted. Plus, the last two crashes happened when recording Overwatch, specifically a few seconds after the video was saved.

Keep in mind these same crashes happened before my new build, and the only constants are the HDD, CPU, and GPU. However, the HDD from before is now the storage drive and the boot drive is a referb.

Ofc none of this explains the boot drive failure I had earlier, but I wanted to get all of that out there so I don't waste time. I just really -really- don't want to have to buy a whole new card...

Sorry for the rambling. It's 8am. I'm goimg to bed.

The link you posted shows a 404 access denied for me.

Not sure if I mentioned this, but when you see ntoskrnl.exe as probable cause, or similar Windows files, you can assure it is because there is nothing else to directly blamed. This happens when in the stack no 3rd party driver is present for blaming.
With other words, it is not the cause but the default referring to when there is nothing else as something must be blamed.

    That looks fairly fine *Smile

Could you upload the chkdsk log please, a .txt or .evtx file is preferrable, if .evtx you might need to zip it up and upload the zip.

About your card, is a 42% of the fans the max you can push from it?
83C with 42% of the fans under load (from your furmark screenshot), if this isn't the max it should be possible to get the temp down when under heavy load.

Yea, the fans can go higher, but they are either automatic or static. Someone mentioned adjusting the cooling 'curve' but I have no idea where to adjust that. Radeon settings seems to not have that option.

Best place I know to adjust it is in the BIOS

Alright I finally gave in. Installed a GTX 1060 a week ago with a new CPU as well. No blue screens since then, and fantastic performance all around. Only issue I seem to be having is that my PC will boot onto the login screen, return to the bios, then boot normally. Could this be due to my boot drive being maybe on its last legs?

Other than this issue, there have been no other problems.
