Windows 10: "We're getting search ready" error - Windows/Cortana Search

We shouldn't have to go creating accounts to fix it. I for one do not have a MS account and refuse to join their ecosystem except for running their OS.

 

Today I noticed some updates were installed overnight. I no longer get the "we're getting search ready" message, however I still do not get any of the settings in my search results.

 

Just to add my two penneth..

...over the last week I have upgraded eight machines 32 bit, 64 bit, recent and ancient from Win 7 and Win 8, tablets, laptops and desktops. Only on the last two, yesterday and today did this problem show up for me. Both desktops, both in the same room, both 64 bit but one an old dell Inspiron 530 and the other a custom build Cube/Mesh machine. Yesterday I started rebuilding the index and the machine hung. I was forced to shut it down by pressing the power button. When I restarted it all was well. Today on the very last upgrade same problem BUT I decided to let the indexing proceed on its own. I switched users to add my wife's account picture. YES HER BLINKING SEARCH WAS WORKING FINE and switched back to my account to write this. SO IT IS NOT TRUE THAT ALL USERS WILL HAVE THE SAME SEARCH STATUS (ALTHOUGH I RECALL LAST WEEKEND WAS A BLUE MOON!). Now I have : Indexing is not running in the Indexing Options box.

Think I will try to get all available updates before doing anything else. Mentioning updates, I was pleased to note that my chipset and display drivers had updated automatically. Now I know some folk whose dual displays have been banjaxed are not pleased but speaking as someone who had to spend some while on an old machine reinstalling its proper driver rather than the Microsoft default, I am thrilled. IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED THAT MY ONLY DUAL DISPLAY IS WORKING FINE ALTHOUGH THAT IS FOLLOWING A DRIVER REINSTALLATION BY ME AND NOT AUTOMATICALLY.

UPDATE: Search now works just a little later after 20,000 plus items indexed. I tried looking for updates earlier to resolve the issue but there was none available.

Tried that just now, not the same issue and as such the troubleshooter doesn't fix it!

 

Sorry! I was please to find it a couple of days ago after six hours of looking for something.

 

Nope, though thanks for the suggestion - it doesn't find any errors when it runs.

 

Finally fixed it properly. I had managed to get it so all I was missing was the settings from the new settings app so I had another think and tried something I had done before, but that hadn't worked at the time (when I still had the 'we are getting search ready' message and was missing all of the settings and entries from the old control panel as well as the settings app) - I deleted and rebuilt the index using the 'rebuild' button in Indexing options - Advanced.

It went through re-indexing and now I seem to have everything finally - docs, apps, control panel settings, 'new' settings app settings, web search and Windows store apps.

Only took a week *Smile

I made a search in settings "Wi-Fi Sense"…
The first time I get this message while the indexing was complete in my computer:





Then I get this one:





Can somebody replicate this?

 

I only get the last one: "No results for Wi-Fi Sense".

 

+1. That one doesn't come up with any results.

 

*Sigh* Sadly still no luck for me *Sad I wonder if a windows update will sort it out?

Does anybody get results when searching for Wi-Fi Sense?

It is an important setting! Why no results are shown?

 

I only get a list of web options for this. But my search seems to work for pretty much everything else OK.
