No, you have to use the credentials of the computer you're wanting to allow access.

    Example:
On my desktop to allow my laptop ... I use my laptop credentials

    Internet or Network Address: EAGLE-LAPTOP
    Username: eagle
    Password: 12345

On my laptop to allow my desktop ... I use my desktop credentials

    Internet or Network Address: EAGLE-DESKTOP
    Username: eagle
    Password: 12345

Note: In my case, I use the same USERNAME & PASSWORD on both PCs.

I was just reading back and I think the issue your running into, you don't have a password set on you Local Account (as you stated you don't want to use a password). I don't know if you can leave the Password blank in the Windows Credentials, when using Password Protected Sharing .... I have never tried it.

Note: You can add a password to your Local Account and have Windows Log In Automatically.

You cant share a users folder even if your on the pc and admin by default your locked out of other users folders. You need to setup a folder to share as that wont have the settings. Yu can set permissions on shares but you also need to have ntfs permissions.

Its you system but do you understand the risk of not having password anyone that connect in via wireless or other is free to run amuck on all your pc if you get ransomware or virus that would spread like wildfire

It all started when one day I went to access my Toshiba laptop from my Gateway laptop like I always did, and it asked for credentials. I have a Toshiba running Windows 10, a Gateway running Windows 7, a Viao laptop running Windows XP Pro and a tower computer that I built years ago running Windows XP Pro. I hate to bother you, but how would I exactly go about selling all the credentials up? I will always use the same username and password. I greatly appreciate your patience with me.

    Ivan8ias,
If all your PCs (xp, 7, 10) currently have the same Local Account Username then great. If not, do NOT change them !!!
To add a password to each one of your PCs for your Local Account, follow the tutorial and use Option 3 as it will be consistent across all of those different versions of windows.
Yes, you can use the same Password for all of them. Write it down *Smile
On each PC, affter you set the Password, I would Log Out, then Log In again and make sure the password works *Smile

Win 10 Suddenly asking for Network Credentials

Thank you for your help, but I don't want to be promted for a password everytime I log in to my Windows accounts just for the network access. For example, the Toshiba running Windows 10 turns on and sees Lin as the only user. She just clicks on "Sign In" and accesses her laptop. On my Gateway laptop running Windows 7 it's the same thing. I sign by in as Ivan and access my laptop. Both computers work the same way, but the Windows XP Pro machines both bypass all that and just start running Windows. Another annoying problem is that I cannot access drive c, the only drive on both the Toshiba and the Gateway. through the workgroup network . I have Administrator privileges on both computers and have tried everything even in advanced settings and I still get the message: "network path... C is not accessible. You do not have permission to access this drive." I don't know how to change that on either machine, but I can easily log in to the XP Pro machines, both having multiple drives with no problem. Do you know what's going on?

Again, I sincerely appreciate your time and effort to help me.

Have you actually Shared Drive C ?
In File Explorer right click on C > Properties > Sharing Tab > Advanced Sharing > Check Share this Folder. Click on Permissions and make sure the User / Group has Full Control. You may need to Add Everyone and give it Full Control

I still have networking problems, though. I know I should have a network password set for all the computers, but I first have to find out why there is limited network workgroup connectivity. At one point a while ago, all computers saw and accessed each other in the TECHNET workgroup. Now only the Toshiba (Windows 10) sees and accesses the Gateway (Windows 7) and the upstairs computer (Windows XP). The Gateway does not find any computer. The upstairs computer sees both the Toshiba and Gateway. It can access the Gateway, but not the Toshiba, which asks for a username and password. Of course I allowed file sharing access on all computers in the workgroup. I don't know what else to do.

Want to hear something weird? After writing this message on my smartphone, I went back to the Gateway, and now all of a sudden, it sees and accesses the upstairs computer and also sees the Toshiba, which of course, asks for credentials. What is seemingly intermittently, happening?

Most likely the computer is at fault. You can do a complete flush in windows with this. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/creden...orking-windows The bad part is that Microsoft ties in Credential Manager with IE, which is coded into the OS like Edge, if anything breaks, you have to do IE repairs.

The other issue is that this problem goes back to Windows 7. If you go to a Local account instead of a Microsoft Live account, sometimes it does fixes things. The certificate that the Gateway is handing out can cause issues if IPTables on the Gateway is messed up. That means a hard reset to flush everything out and then try.

Since this is going on with Verizon's Gateway still, ask them to send you out a replacement. The other is make sure that you do not have some third party tool running that cleans out various items, including networking. Tweaking.com has some great tools, you can try their tool to see if it may fix things. Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Free/Pro

Now that you mentioned it, I was having some trouble with IE 11 64-bit not navigating using the back button, but I just didn't bother with it, so now I decided to do a repair. Fortunately, I thought ahead and exported all my settings to files. After the repair, IE works great and it looks like it cleared up the problem with network discovery. Thank you for your help.

Thank you. But what would I do when I have three computers? What would the credentials be on each machine? For some reason my Gateway laptop says that the domain is Gateway. Is that just a coincidence? I fixed the problem with the Gateway by resetting IE11 and can now at least have all three computers see one another. It's just the network username/password issue.
