Win 10 Taskbar - multiple displays - why different icons

    Hello,

I am using Windows 10 with multiple displays. I have "Show taskbar on all displays" On and "Show taskbar buttons on All taskbars" and "Never combine buttons on all taskbars".

For some reason, the buttons on the main display are small size (icons only) and the buttons on the secondary display are large size (program names, full date, etc.). I would like them all to be small size, but don't see any settings to change this with. Until recently everything was fine, but then something apparently "updated" all by itself.

Both monitors are identical, although one (the secondary display) is connected directly by HDMI and the other (the main display) by HDMI via a docking station.

    Thanks!

    :)

  2. Multiple display taskbar

    Hi Justin,

Let me guide you now on how to set up multiple displays on a Windows 10 computer. You may follow the steps below to configure the correct display settings for your device.

    Here are the steps:

    • Right-click on your desktop.
    • Select Display settings, then different options will be displayed.
    • You can either choose Duplicate these displays to sync your activities from the original monitor with the second one or
Extend these displays to be able to do multiple activities using separate displays.
    • After choosing your preferred option, click on Apply.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

    System Icons on taskbar

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

    • Click on the search bar on the taskbar.

    • Type system icons.

    • Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

    Hope it helps.

Win 10 Taskbar - multiple displays - why different icons

    multiple display -taskbar and icons

Hello Jim, Win 10 Taskbar - multiple displays - why different icons :)

The system icons will show on the taskbar of the main display by default in Windows 10.

If you wanted each display to be "extended" to show separately, then you could either change which display is the main display, or unlock the taskbar and drag and drop the main taskbar with system icons to the display you want without it changing the main display.

Another option is to set your displays to "duplicate" (Settings -> System -> Display) to have both show the same thing.
