Windows 10: Windows 10 10586.3 and slow login problem

I assumed that was a known fact. Most of the AV comparatives rate it very low in detection. There are still far better options.

 

I guess I'm not the only one with this problem. My 2015 Asus zenbook 305f (256ssd, 8gbram) (pre packaged with win10) is a week old. Once I did the Nov 2015 win 10 update I have noticed a 30s wait between typing in my pw and waiting for the desktop to appear. Prior to that it was maybe 6 seconds. I disabled all startup programs. Have enabled/disenabled fast startup, disabled/enabled the requirement for a pw at login, but still no change. What gives? I notice that in msconfig I have 194 services running at startup (95% microsoft, a few intel/asus and 1 for mozilla/adobe)
However, if just do a reset, the login screen is maybe there for 5 s.

I find this frustrating as my 2009 macbook pro with a 2.26 intel core duo and 8gb ram with a ssd takes like 3 seconds... I would think that a computer 6 years newer would surely be quicker than 30s...
Any other suggestions?

 

There seems to be no solution to this yet, and i've searched a lot. I was hoping that new cumulative updated released yesterday which updates the build number to 10586.11 would make somewhat of a difference, but unfortunately my hopes have been shattered more than a glass of whiskey in a bar during an irish sailors reunion. *Sad

Yes I have McAfee Live Safe and have had no issues with it at all has a good record in fact all of my systems I look after in the house have McAfee on them including all the smartphones we use.
When big upgrade came I did not even shut down McAfee and once upgraded it came back in.
Check that your drivers are up to date as I have an automatic driver updater installed and on every upgrade and the update just installed one driver updated its self.
This is on all laptops and tablets we use for business and pleasure

 

Suggestions :

1. Run a system restore. Pick a date when you did NOT have this "slowness" as your restore point.

2. If nothing has helped, do a Rest option.
Left click at Start button > left side, click Settings > select Update & Security > left side, click Recovery > right side, under Reset this PC, click the Get started button.

 

Definitely not the sites I read. Possibly for magazines and their respective websites, but not ones like AV Comparitives. McAfee always has been junk and still is.

I reverted back to the previous build and the problem seems to be solved (so far)

 

After today's update (build 10586.11), mine seems to be fixed.
Did a couple of restarts, including "cold" starts and the "welcome screen"comes up for about 2sec. Hoping it stays this way *Thumbs

 

*Devil UPDATE: After the machine has been off for ±8Hrs, the problem is back ... I find it weird that it worked as expected for a while after that update ... how is this possible? *Banghead

My next try will be to do a complete format & reload with the new ISO ... anyone done it yet?

 

I did the clean install yesterday and I'm still having the same problems with slow welcome screen as well. I formatted my SSD and booted with usb. I rarely get an 8 second boot from time to time after the clean install but the usual time is closer to 40 seconds. I notice a flicker when the welcome screen starts and the accent color that is chosen will flash for a second then the screen stays on welcome for the rest of the time. This makes me wonder if it could be something to do with the GPU as I have an integrated intel and an Nvidia card and there have been other issues with Nvidia and windows 10.

 

You should not be getting a slow welcome screen. As you stated, it is most likely the GPU chips.

Pull the NVidia and see if that fixes the issue.

What model is the card and how old is it?

 

I'm on ATI, so did MS now mess it up with addon GPU's ?

 

I have Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M, the integrated is an Intel HD Graphics 4600. I unfortunately can't pull the Nvidia physically as it is soldered to the motherboard on this model of laptop but I disabled it in the device manager and restarted after that. The restart went from manufacturer logo to desktop in about 8 seconds. I did a normal shut down after that just to test it further and got the same lengthy welcome screen.
