Windows 10 1903 Search not working on start bar.


I just did all my updates and now search is not working on the start bar. You click the search icon and nothing happens.
I have restarted and checked that the search service is working.

I think the updates have broken search. I have an HP Elitedesk G4.


Please help. Search makes the computer easier to use.

You can easily check if Windows search is working by inspecting indexing options, and while viewing that, add a file to an indexed folder and see if the number of items indexed increments.

Then check that item can be found using search from file explorer.

Turning to the search bar, prior to 1903 I might have suggested this:
Reinstall and Re-register Cortana in Windows 10

However I'm uncertain what effect that has in 1903 with the separation of search from Cortana. No harm in trying it though.

Before attempting an in-place upgrade repair install, please create a new user for test purposes. If the search bar works when logged in as that user, an in-place upgrade repair will most likely be a waste of time.

 

Start Bar not working after update install in Windows 10


Hi, tried as you suggest. It starts and says Checking application registration... and the green progress bar just goes on and on (let it run for over two hours) and never gets to the next step. Any other suggestions?

 

Search Bar/Cortana

From the description, I understand that you are still receiving the pop up notifications, despite having disabled the search functionality in windows 10.

Steps to disable the Search Bar

• Right click on the task bar.
• Select the "Search" option.
• Select "Disable."

However, if the above steps don't work out, perform the below suggested steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Open a CMD window started as Administrator.

Repair corruption: Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth.

Run this command next: Sfc /scannow

Now run these two commands:

PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
