How to Reinstall and Re-register Cortana in Windows 10


Cortana is your cloud-based personal assistant that works across your devices and other Microsoft services. Depending on the capabilities of your device and the version of Cortana youre using, Cortana can provide a range of features, some of which are personalized. Cortana on Windows is available in certain regions and languages. If Cortana isnt available for your Windows device, you can still search for files on your device in the search box on the taskbar. Cortana is also available on other platforms, such as Android and iOS, in select markets.

If Cortana is not working, then reinstalling the app package for Cortana and re-registering Cortana may help fix it.

This tutorial will show you how to reinstalling and re-registering Cortana for only your account (current user) or all users in Windows 10.


CONTENTS:

OPTION ONE [/i] Reinstall and Re-register Cortana for Only Current User
1. Open PowerShell.

2. Copy and paste the command below into PowerShell, and press Enter. (see screenshots below)

*Arrow Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Cortana | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

3. When finished, you can close PowerShell if you like.











OPTION TWO [/i] Reinstall and Re-register Cortana for All Users

*note You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to do this option.
1. Open an elevated PowerShell.

2. Copy and paste the command below into the elevated PowerShell, and press Enter. (see screenshots below)

*Arrow Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Microsoft.Windows.Cortana | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

3. When finished, you can close the elevated PowerShell if you like.

Cortana missing

If you
"uninstalled" it for a single user then you should be able to "reinstall" it - see

If you disabled it by setting a Registry key then changing that Registry key back again should see you okay. Perhaps this will guide you sufficiently -

Restarted to see if that would fix it, didn't. Clicking the navigation/action center icon does nothing, flag+P does nothing, any ideas?
