Windows 10 apps or Store not working for some users

wsreset is not about store itself, rather the cache for apps being updated by the store
"If you are having issues with installing or updating Store apps in Windows 10, it may be caused by an issue with the Store cache."

I also would suggest that, since all (or many) of your PCs are manifesting the same issue, that if what you have installed on them is the same in each case, then you review what's there.

Then try one once in a working state from a clean boot, and see if it shows the problem you are reporting.

    Damage Limitation (maybe):
One way to limit the damage would be to install a program like Rollback RX, take a snapshot of the PC in a good state, then revert (quickly) to the snapshot. However, that would be a least preferred way as I've come to dislike such programs.

Another would be to create a disk image of a good state (which you can upate) and restore that when the problem occurs.

    Hi,

From a user with a corrupt Store wsreset stopped with the error message "ms-windows-storeWindows 10 apps or Store not working for some users :purgeCaches can't find element"
From a user with a functional Store wsreset worked fine. But it did not solve the problem.

Concerning the task manager. I'll try the checkbox "highest privileges". Never know if that helps.

I have Macrium images. But then users complain they have lost their settings and so. And the frustrating part is, the problems always return.

Software installed on all the pc's
    VMWare Player 12
    SumatraPDF 3.1.1
    Nvidia driver

I wonder if Scottyboy99 has some of this installed too. It might be an interaction between software. One never knows.

    Thanks for your idea’s

Hi, are you syncing these across your network in any fashion?
Do you have peer to peer updates enabled for Windows updates? (I'm wondering if this is corrupting your updates somehow)

I suggest you take one PC, take it off the LAN, do an in-place upgrade repair install (see tutorial section) or whatever you need to do to get it running normally,, and run it in isolation from the others, with no user accessing it and see if it experiences corruption.

That's a minimal set of programs - I have 300 + installed, no problems. VMWare player is one I don't have, I have VirtualBox.

I think you're looking for either
    a. sthg transmitted from PC to PC
    or
    b. sthg the users are doing.

Do you know why the dates you showed were 2015? That's old...

Windows 10 apps or Store not working for some users

    Hi,

I took the previous samples from a pc that was installed at the beginning of January. Store must have been corrupted shortly after.
Besides I have been returning with system restore and images. And now Store updates are disabled to prevent worse. I did that last Monday.

But the problem happens really so frequent …

Monday I had some accidents with Photos.
    checked the Folders
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_15.1001.16470.0_neutral_split.language-xx_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_15.1001.16470.0_neutral_split.scale-100_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_16.201.11370.0_neutral_split.language-xx_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_16.201.11370.0_neutral_split.scale-100_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_16.201.11370.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_2016.201.12130.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    checked the registry
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_16.122.14020.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
    => Wrong number in registry
I have the problem on my pc at home too. So I don’t think the LAN can be the cause.

    Thank you for the post!

Ok, so the one common element... is you... *Roflmao2

That said, weird.. there must be sthg else common... I've not seen this reported elsewhere (yet)....
Have you transferred any files, data, anything between your home PC and the others?
    Do you do so regularly?

Or are all the PCs similar in some way- hardware/drivers/configuration? I'm struggling to think of why you should have the difficulty you are (other than that Win 10 is immature).

  6. Hi guys,

I hope someone can help me deal with my problem in Win 10, which is that the context menu has disappeared from my gmail This means that I can not save any message which I need to keep, and so can not delete it. I believe that my Inbox will soon be visible from space!

The security tab also disappeared from Properties which was a bind, but I got it back. Please don't expect me to remember how.

One good thing about Win 10 is that I do not have to go into Properties as often as I had to with previous versions in order to get access to files. I still find the whole business of getting round the permissions lunacy completely ridiculous, and I look forward to a day when the idiots at MS who decided to impose the permissions nonsense on me, are seen hanging from their testicles in front of the White House.

Hi, welcome to tenforums. Unfortunately your new post has been attached to this thread, to which it isn't related. Could you delete it and repost it as a new thread with an appropriate title? That way people will see it and be able to help you. Thanks.

  8. Windows 10 apps or Store not working for some users

Whilst the store and app updates have been giving me issues since switching to manual updates rather than auto all is ok. So far. But I had to deal with creating new user accounts too. I have quite a bit of normal software installed but not too many store apps other than the native ones. One commonality is I have nvidia 980ti so I have an nvidia driver but lose track of which version. Nvidia seem to bring out updates every time someone in the world sneezes so I don't bother updating those unless there is a compelling need to do so.

i wonder if phone users suffer the same grief as desktop users with the store and app updates. I don't really like the store and apps theme transgressing into desktops and it seems MS haven't implemented it too well. Maybe future builds will be better. Sadly I have no pearls of wisdom other than to create new users which is what I did. And taking periodic system images as was already mentioned. It's a total nuisance I know but cannot see how else it can be fixed without being a MS developer with oodles of knowledge. It is pretty lousy and unfortunately powershell fixes are not to be trusted

    Hi,

The Microsoft forums are full of people who complain "Store not working". Or "Photo app not working".

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...f-b46b7fb7fddf (bottom of page 1) is also someone who looked in the registry. That person saw double registrations in the registry.

Probably that person had first tried the
    Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} trick.

After the Powershell line I also got double registrations in the registry. The new registrations are added but the old ones are not removed with the Powershell line.
And the result is that it does not work.
Manually removing in registry is no option as you have to take ownership.

As you probably know that Powershell command used to be ok in build 10240, but has failed/breaks apps since build 10580 (November). Normally if the user has no disk image/restore points the long-winded fix is an in-place upgrade installation, which keeps most associations and all programs, reinstating any uninstalled universal apps.

What seems puzzling is that many have no trouble with app updates/store whilst others do, and the trigger for this is not yet apparent. In your case you have few additional programs installed, which leaves
    - the user
    - settings
    - hardware and drivers
    - factor X (unknown)

You have multiple users, so unless they were all doing the same thing, it seems unlikely you would see this problem so frequently.

Have you seen this and worked thru these steps?

  13. Windows 10 apps or Store not working for some users

Well, tonight I noticed in the store there was an app update for mail and calendar. I manually downloaded and the process failed with some error code and how MS are working on it. I then re-scanned manually for updates to apps and it got offered again. I set it install again and this time it worked. BUT for all other users the mail and calendar app both refuse to launch. I despair, these native app updates are a joke. I will see if I have restore point, otherwise it's back to deleting the user accounts yet again and re-creating them just to get thse apps working! Grrrr

The other users are standard account for my wife and a child account

    EDIT

So a system restore worked. All back working for all users. I then updated the apps again manually via store. This time no error message, the update downloaded and installed fine. I checked it worked still for all users and it was all ok. So it seems if the app update fails for any reason and needs attempting again, then it will generally install ok and work for that user who is logged in but bugger it up for all other users on the machine. Because I do it manually it is more obvious to me that I'm going to have a problem as I see the error/fail. I guess those who have automatic app updates become aware much later, the App Store probably tries to update the apps automatically, fails, tries again a bit later, maybe it works this time - but of course the app in question is borked for the unfortunate other users because of the initial failure.

Maybe admin and standard accounts make a difference, I don't know but I am keeping my wife on the standard acc (as she is far from tech savvy) and my son on the child account. Maybe having fast start enabled makes a difference too in that app updates are more likely to fail if using fast start rather than a proper restart/reboot. All complete speculation and I have nowhere near the skill to troubleshoot effectively, but then a user shouldn't have to hand hold Windows 10 like this. It's pretty lame by MS and needs addressing. In the interim every time I see an app update waiting for a native MS app I will create a restore point first before attempting. It's an irritation that's for sure!

    Hi,

I tried http://www.techcular.com/apps-in-win...ils-to-update/ but that did not have any effect.

Scottyboy99 wrote: “Maybe admin and standard accounts make a difference”. I have the problem also on computers where everybody is administrator. So I don’t think it has any effect.

And he wrote:” app updates are more likely to fail if using fast start rather than a proper restart/reboot”. On the youth work all computers have slow start. So that does not help either.

I also had the Mail update with the failure but without resulting problems. Last week I made some changes to the update task in task manager. After dalchina pointing me to that task.
    • On the bottom of the settings tab of the scheduled task I’ve chosen “Do not start a new instance”.
    • On the bottom of the general tab of the scheduled task I’ve chosen “ Run with highest privileges”.
I’m now testing if it helps. Don’t know yet. But it is surely not worse.

Scottyboy99, my app updates are also manual now. First restore point. Then the update. And after the update checking if the updated app still works for everybody on the system. Otherwise return in time. Just like you do. What a hassle!

And if returning in time fails, even worse: make new users ...

Everybody, thanks for your posts! I'll keep you updated about my test.

  15. Thanks KoenD, I'd be interested to hear how your testing works out. I am trying to like Windows 10 but am finding it extremely testing of my patience. If MS want to force store/apps into this 'Hybrid' Windows OS (surely 'apps' should only really be for mobile phones) then they need to get this right. Of course there are other third party apps to replace the native apps but it is extremely annoying to know there are broken apps littering the computer.

I think there are many people suffering issues but then there are many people who say they see no problem. But I am willing to bet many of these people probably do not have multiple user accounts setup on a single computer and as such would be unlikely to see the problems. Like I say on my own user account, where I initiate the app updates from, they never seem to break - it's only for the poor unfortunate other users and only when an app update doesn't work first time because of some innocuous / cryptic error code given by MS.

    Cheers,
    Wayne
